Corman, high on the box-office potential of “Atlas,” his first million-dollar venture which will be released early in the new year, said four of The Filmgroup’s 1961 pro¬ gram will be made in the $750,000-$1,000,000 range. Four others will be in the inter¬ mediate category, and the third group of four will be low-budgeted. “Increased quality has paid off for us,” Corman said. “We have increased the gross and the number of contracts per release. We have been able to better exhibitor relations because we have given the showman better box-office bait. Now we will reach out for more dates and longer runs. To accomplish that, we will increase the qualities of produc¬ tion and build in better entertainment with more intriguing premises, and more known cast names. We will step up picture ‘lurability’ by spending the necessary to achieve the result exhibitors expect when they play Filmgroup product.” AlP Names Two In S. A. Reich further stated that Luis Balia has been appointed special home office repre¬ sentative for AIP in Argentina, and will make his headquarters in the Buenos Aires office of Imperial Films. Balia was formerly with several of the major film companies in Argentina and Uru¬ guay.
