First, it is important to have some type of teaser cam¬ paign started through some medium which would suit your locale best. In some eases this could be a small teaser ad placed well in advance of opening. In this instanee, it should be WHERE THE GIRLS ARE on the Soeiety Page. Use teaser ad #208. WHERE THE BOYS ARE-Sport Sectionuse ad #209. If your newspaper has a Teen-Age Section or a Students’ Form, use ad #211. In the rnn of the newspaper, place ad #210. Most newspapers today carry record review and timely reeord chit-chat. Use teaser ad #130 showing Gonnie Francis. These ads can be seen on page 17. Your Sun¬ day theatre section, or the editor who has the eye for the unusual will like the caricature by Sam Norkin. This is top art that most newspapers rarely get a chance to use to break up their normal picture layouts. Don’t overlook the free newspaper lineage that can be secured through your news¬ papers with eye-catching art, or the automobile page with a picture of the Triumph, or the hobby page with camera art.
There are unlimited opportunities for contests. All contests to be successful do not have to be national, but can be on the local level. “Name the New Face” contest can be used
as a visual aid on TV. Goloring contest is shown with the special mat on page 14 of your press book. Don’t overlook the “Guide for Girls.” Metro has had a large number of these successful guides that proved to be a stimulant to the sleepy box olfiee.
Tliis would be a terrifie picture for your newspaper to shoot a photo of a deserted beach. Then use a picture that usually is taken at the height of the season to show “WHERE THE BOYS ARE.” Oddly enough, “WHERE THE BOYS ARE” really should be “WHERE THE GIRLS ARE.” I guess it’s just what point of view you have.
Travel agencies should be waiting for that extra push that a several million dollar picture can do to instill the winter vacation desire.
All the above-mentioned ideas of showmanship and how to do it are well and good, but for me to cry out into the night would be of no avail if not one or two showmen somewhere would not attempt to make this picture, “WHERE THE BOYS ARE,” a success, if for no reason but to prove to him¬ self that it could be done.
In closing, I would like to say that the ads shown in the press book are all cjuite good and in varied sizes to meet your local needs. I would like to add that I think the title should be “WHERE THE BOYS ARE” and then, in parentheses, underneath the title, I would say “SO ARE THE GIRLS.”
"WHERE THE BOYS ARE" is loaded with new stars, and patrons can be interested in them and the picture via distribution of this herald, which lists all the youngsters and offers prizes for the best reasons why film fans think one of them is destined for certain stardom.
