FURNITURE
• for lounge & foyer Meeting Low-Cost Lounge Needs
MODERNIZATION of the
motion picture exhibition plant has not only been notably characterized by the substitution of overly ornamental forms with sleek modern lines, usually carried out in the newer architectural materials; revision of the theatre has also prominently included facilities to meet new and higher standards of comfort.
And in the advance of these improvements in theatre plan and style and equipment, the smaller theatre — in outlying sections of cities and in small towns alike — has played an important part. In fact, it is the smaller theatre which has undergone the
devoted to traffic areas, but often the expenditure of money for items of furnishings that once could be dispensed with.
That, however, is a condition met with today throughout the theatre. Once the smaller, modestly appointed theatre could get along with veneer auditorium seating. Even composition flooring could be used where carpet is demanded today. Lighting, even at the front, commonly represented but a minor expenditure. Lounge facilities in some degree belong to a fairly large group of new necessities.
For the theatre of restricted budget metal furniture in general has made at
most striking change. To one in a position to observe a representative number of plans for new theatres and remodeling projects, the provision of lounges in sizes and types of theatres that seldom boasted of more than the merest toilet facilities has been a common feature of the current modernization movement.
That no motion picture theatre catering to a good class of patronage can well be without some lounge provisions, be they in special rooms or as part of a foyer, is to be conceded today. Yet among the smaller theatres, this means not only more space
tractive lounge facilities readily accessible. Illustrated in these columns is furniture which goes yet a step further in the direction of economy. All of the pieces shown belong to a new Royalchrome group designed for low-cost installations. The seat cushions of both chair and settee are of spring construction, and these as well as the bench are covered in the same heavyduty leatherette used in other Royalchrome metal furniture, which is available in 28 colors. The top of the end table is lacquered for hard usage. All of the metal is chromium-finished.
