A p r i 940 MOTION PICTURE HERALD 27 IN THE CUTTING ROOM Andy Hardy Meets a Debutante (MGM) Hardy Series Reappearing together for the first time since "Babes in Arms," Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland are here seen with the other regular members of the "Hardy tribe, Tom Neal, Cecilia Parker, Lewis Stone, Sara Haden and Ann Rutherford. The story in this version of the continuing Hardy series takes the family to New York for the first time, and gets Andy in a series of scrapes devolving from his attempts to meet a debutante with whom he fancies himself infatuated. George B. Seitz directed. Seitz has handled all but one of the series. Release date: To be determined. Turnabout (Roach-UA) Comedy 1 Based on the Thorne Smith novel, "Turnabout" treats in humorous vein of a young married couple whose wish that each might have "the easy life" of the other is granted, with results designed to be as amusing as complex. John Hubbard and Carole Landis are seen as the young couple who attempt, respectively, to keep house and carry on the affairs of an advertising agency. The cast includes Adolphe Menjou, co-starred with Miss Landis and Mr. Hubbard ; Verree Teasdale, Donald Meek, William Gargan and Mary Astor. Hal Roach, whose latest pictures were "1,000,000 B.C." and "The Housekeeper's Daughter," produced and directed. The screen play was written by Mickell Novak, Berne Giler and John McClain, with additional dialogue by Rian James. Release date: May 17, 1940. Covered Wagon Days i (Republic) j Three Mesquiteers Bob Livingstone, Raymond Hatton and Duncan Renaldo, the "Three Mesquiteers," here ferret out criminals responsible for silver smuggling. The original screen play was written by Earl Snell, who did "The Days of Jesse James." Harry Grey was associate producer, with George Sherman directing, as he did last on "Ghost Valley Raiders." I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Baby (Universal) Music and Muscle Men Latest of the films in the series with titles based on song successes, this offering features Johnny Downs, Peggy Moran, Broderick Crawford. Jessie Ralph and Warren Hymer. The screen play, by Arthur T. Horman, who wrote "My Son is a Criminal," and Paul Gerard Smith, who contributed dialogue for "My Wife's Relatives," concerns a struggling young composer who becomes involved with gangsters. Four songs are featured. Albert S. Rogell directed. He was the director of "Hawaiian Nights" and "Laugh It Off." Ken Goldsmith, who handled "The Invisible Man Returns." Two Girls on Broadway (MGM) Musical Romance Joan Blondell, Lana Turner and George Murphy are co-starred in this musical story of a vaudeville hoofer who finally gets his break, meanwhile having fallen in love with the sister of his fiancee. Miss Blondell last appeared in "The Amazing Mr. Williams," Miss Turner in "Dancing CoEd," and Mr. Murphy in "Broadway Melody of 1940." Jack Cummings is the producer. S. Sylvan Simon directed. He handled "Four Girls in White," "These Glamour Girls" and "Dancing Co-Ed." Two song numbers have been written for the show, "Broadway's Still Broadway," by Harry Revel and Ted Fetter, and "Maybe It's the Moon," by Bob Wright and Chet Forrest. Release date: April 19, 1940. Kodak Profit $21,537,577 Eastman Kodak Wednesday reported an increase of $4,495,779 in net profit for 1939. The total for the year was $21,537,577, compared with $17,041,798 in 1938. The profits for the year were equal to $8.55 a common share after deducting preferred stock dividends.
