Description:
Founded in 1915 by a Chicago printing company as a regional trade paper for Midwest exhibitors. In 1916, editor Martin Quigley bought out the owners, and over the next 15 years, he grew EXHIBITORS HERALD into one of the most important national, weekly trade papers in the film business. Quigley acquired MOTOGRAPHY in 1917 and MOVING PICTURE WORLD in 1927. In 1930, he acquired MOTION PICTURE NEWS and the new 'consolidated' publication became MOTION PICTURE HERALD. From the pulpit of his editorial page, Quigley preached the need to improve the motion picture industry and improve the quality of the films. He skillfully served as a mediator in disputes -- between distributors and exhibitors, between the film industry and the Catholic Church (Quigley was one of the architects of the Production Code). Quigley claimed that EXHIBITORS HERALD represented the 'independent exhibitor' and sections like 'What the Picture Did for Me?' certainly provided a forum for theater owners. But plenty of exhibitors viewed Quigley as a servant to the studios and large theater chains. In response, publications such as SHOWMEN'S TRADE REVIEW, INDEPENDENT EXHIBITORS FILM BULLETIN, HARRISON'S REPORTS, and BOX OFFICE were either formed or grew significantly in the years following Quigley's brief moment of consolidation in 1930. -- Eric Hoyt, 2014

ROY ROGERS "T RIGGER" KING OF THE COWBOYS SMARTEST HORSE IN THE MOVIES 1 . When the one-time famed Rodeo star, Sam Bennett (Harry Shannon) is nearly killed while racing a chuck-wagon which has been improperly equipped, Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers) and The Sons Of The Pioneers (Themselves) leave the Calvert Brothers Rodeo. 3. The young daughter turns out to be a most attractive young lady (Sheila Ryan), who is accompanied by her pert friend, Pat (Arline Judge). Sue takes a hand in what she considers the unbusinesslike management of the ranch. 5. Bennett threatens Jim Calvert (Barton MacLane), but is unable to regain the bill of sale. After a free-for-all, Roy decides to gamble the ranch on the results of a chuck-wagon race, the winner of which will obtain the rights to the property. 2. Roy and his pals plan their own Rodeo, which they are stocking at their "AII-4-One" ranch; and Roy persuades the boys to allow the impoverished Sam Bennett to pose as its owner during the visit of his young daughter, Sue. j$3 4. Sam Bennett tells her that Roy is his partner, and Sue persuades the pair to sign a contract. She unwittingly plays into the hands of the Calvert Brothers by selling what she believes is her father's share of the ranch. 6. The race is a thriller, especially since Calvert has posted men on the course to try to cripple Roy's wagon. Roy wins, makes Bennett his foreman, and leaves with his crew on his first successful tour with his own Rodeo show.
