44 MOTION PICTURE HERALD August 28, 1943 SOME EXPLOITATION SLANTS By John A. Tenschert These minstrel playbills dating back 100 years are from manager Paul E. Slase's personal collection. The playbills came in handy for the "Dixie" engagement at the Embassy theatre, Reading, Pa. This huge electric display was arranged for Roy Rogers' appearance at the Oriental theatre, Chicago. Manager J. N. Schwartwalder drew plenty of comment to the Auburn theatre, Auburn, N. Y., with this street bally on "Stage Door Canteen". Arnold Gates stressed the 'hit' calibre of his attraction by using white lamps in the marquee channels in contrast with colored ones for the rest of the title. • By Metropolitan Photo Service Press agent Al Zimbalist arranged this outstanding window display for "Bombardier" when the attraction played at the RKO Albee, Brooklyn. "Gabfest" contest employed at the Keith theatre, Baltimore. People were invited to say "We've Never Been Licked", through microphone hookup. Prizes were awarded to those with most dramatic enunciation.
