1 ,j JU illustrations of "The Light on ri ]' Your Screen" department are by Charles E. Shultz unless otherwise I ! indicated. Reproduction luithout ex press permission is forbidden. : \ lor, which would be most helpful in aiding I; projectionist to distinguish the bands acrding to its exchange. The plastic band is actically indestructible and can be used infinitely with any number of prints by sim\ replacing the identification stickers. The looth surface resists dirt and can be washed d kept in clean, attractive condition conintly. Two holes about ^-inch in diameter in e end of the band allow it to be hung over .e familiar nail or peg found in most projecDH rooms for holding the bands when they ^e not in use. We all poke our own holes I the paper ones, but you simply cannot poke hole in solid plastic. ■ In order to get some idea of the reactions iiat might be expected from the exchanges, i discussed the matter with a field representa"•ve of one of the larger film companies. In :i II il : FIGURE 4 (left): A pla stIc reel band which uses a clip in place of the usual string for securing it about the reel; and FIGURE 5: I, The plastic reel band closed and secured by ;j sinnply pressing down on the clip. l|_ ?ftect, this was his reaction: "We pay about 1 penny for paper bands. The plastic type Will be many times more expensive. The cost s too high." In my personal opinion this is 3enny-wise and dollar-foolish and I disagree :ompletely with that individual's viewpoint for the following reasons : 1. A paper band can be used on but one print over a very limited period of time. The plastic band can be used indefinitely with any number of prints. Over a period of time the additional cost of the plastic band is equalized and eventually becomes an investment that costs an appreciable amount less per band than the paper type. 2. The useful life and potential earning power of each release print is greatly increased by the elimination of unnecessary damage. 3. Time and manpower required to repair damaged prints in the exchanges is sharply decreased. 4. The cost of countless thousands of feet of raw stock are saved from the useless ruination that is constantly caused by the use of the paper band. It is my sincere hope that the exchanges will realize the advantages to themselves and to the excellence of projection (particularily in the subsequent run houses) by switching to this obviously improved reel band.
