Lucille La Verne, veteran actress of stage I screen, died in Culver City March 8 at thej of 72. Born in Memphis, she made her debi:| 1888 in "La Tosca." During her career she § command performances before the kings of I land and Belgium and the German Kaiser. I last appearance in films was in Walt Disri "Snow White," in which her voice was heart the witch. Theatrical productions of recent y in which she appeared included "The House Bondage," "East of Suez" and "Seven Days."
M. John Smith
M. John Smith, 70, pioneer exhibitor in northeast section of Philadelphia, and the fa. of Ulrick F. Smith, Philadelphia Paramc branch manager, died March 6 in the Episo Hospital in that city, after an illness of 10 days. 1910, Mr. Smith opened his first house, and w he retired in 1929, was operating the Liberty Northeastern theatres.
