Hollywood Pictures Corporation will produc 12 feature films for the 1945-46 season, to b released by a national distributing company, j has been announced jointly by Jack and Bet Goldberg, president and general sales manage: respectively. According to the announcemen $600,000 already has been appropriated for th production of the 12 films. Wherever possible, everyone employed in th production of the pictures will be a Negro. Thi not only includes the cast, but the technician as well. It is also planned to establish a national com mittee of well known figures to act on the selec tion of story material.. At the same time th public will be asked to submit story material c special appeal, which if accepted by the committei will be paid for at prevailing Hollywood rates. The Goldberg pictures will be made in Hollj wood and released at the rate of one a month This does not include the release of such shoi subjects as may be produced concurrent with th| features. The Goldberg brothers began operations in th Negro film field in 1925. Their activities in th past year have been in the field of Negro doct mentaries. The Goldberg studio in Coral Gable ! Fla., has been closed because of the war an shortage of material. Laboratory Workers Plan Strike Vote in 30 Days The executive board of the IATSE's Motic Picture Laboratory Technicians Local 702, Ne1 York, has been authorized by the union membei ship to file notice of intention to hold a strik vote in 30 days under the Smith-Connally Ac the union announced this week. The action fo lowed a rejection by 1,500 members of the unio of counter-proposals submitted by representative of the 20. film processing laboratories for a ne1 contract for the Local's 1,800 members. The strike action was being taken in spite of th union's no-strike pledge in view of the companie counter-proposals, a union official said. He d< scribed the companies' offers as curtailing some c the benefits currently enjoyed by the local, and 3 completely ignoring its demands for a doubling c the number of job classifications, plus vacation sick-leave, job insurance and a guaranteed wor week. The spokesman said the companies offered min< wage adjustments but sought to put the worker on an hourly basis and also would remove certai workers from the union's jurisdiction. The cor tract between Local 702 and the companies ex pired March 10; negotiations on a new agreemer, started February 15. Grand Rapids Variety Club Inaugurated April 18 The newest Variety Club, Tent 27 of the Na tional Variety Clubs of America, will be inaugn rated next Wednesday, at Grand Rapids, Mich., a a banquet in the Pantlind Hotel there. Robert J O'Donnell, national chief barker, and other na tional officers, will be guests. Major General Ralp Royce, AAF Personnel Distribution Commanc will be chief speaker. Tent officers, who will b inducted that evening, are Jack Stewart, chie barker; Walter Norris, first assistant; G. I Wilier, second assistant; Frank Kleaver, propert; master ; and Lo Robinson, dough guy. Soccer Syndicate Formed A new syndicate, Soccer Associates, New Yor City, has been formed to handle radio, newspape and film requests for coverage of the sport. Th syndicate, headed by Milt Miller, is supplying spe cial articles for news services, publications ani films.
