105 INDUSTRY LEADERS JUDCI! 1945 QUICLEY COMPETITIONS All Branches Represented as 12th Annual Awards Get Under Way With the announcement of the complete list of Judges who will determine this year's Grand Awards winners in the annual Quigley Competitions, the motion picture industry's most noted exploitation sweepstakes has officially opened. Fifty-two executives representing motion picture exhibition, 26 representatives from the field of distribution and 27 advertising and exploitation heads comprise one of the most distinguished Committees in . the 12 years since the Awards Competitions were instituted. The acceptances and endorsements of the individual committee members published on the following pages, with more to follow in subsequent issues, are high tribute to the value and accomplishments provided by the Quigley Competitions in stimulating individual incentive among theatremen throughout the country and abroad. Expressions and opinions of the men in the field, also to be published in later editions of Motion Picture Herald attest to the high esteem and regard in which the Awards are held by managers and theatre publicity men who aspire to win recognition for exceptional work in the field of advertising, exploitation and promotion. Revisions which have been made in the Awards rules during recent years makes every manager, assistant manager or publicity manager who is directly concerned with the promotion of motion pictures in theatres eligible to compete on an equal basis. Full consideration of the Judges is accorded to the campaigns of small-town theatre operators by comparison with the facilities and advantages at the disposal of his big-city colleague. Bases of the Awards are made from the standpoint of seat-selling merits of the campaigns, plus special consideration for consistency of effort. Thus, the shotvman who puts forth the greatest and most sustained effort through the year has a distinct advantage over the theatreman who submits an occasional promotion. Each campaign which is received automatically registers the contributor as a Fortnightly Contender. At the end of each three month period a committee of three Judges selects the most outstanding showman Contender to receive a sterling silver Quarterly Awards Plaque. Seven runnersup are presented with Scrolls of Honors and to other who indicate exceptional effort Certificates of Merit are awarded. The Grand Awards are held annually with the entire body of available Judges in appraisal of those campaigns which have won distinction during the Quarterly Competitions. Two spe:ial Plaques are. awarded to the finalists. Committee of Judges for Grand Awards of 1945 HARRY C. ARTHUR, Jr., Exhibition BARNEY BALABAN.
