that the use of raw lye or any other harsh acid to dislodge any trapped material in a water-closet will tend to eat away the finish of the porcelain and cause leaks in the gasket sealing the water-closet to the floor? that raw lye or any untried patented chemical should never be used in cleaning or opening up stoppages in drains, lavatories or slop sinks? that rubber washers should never be used between the floor and the bottom of the water-closets as they deteriorate very rapidly, resulting in floor water leaks?
