you yourself suggest, and it should make a very definite improvement in your conditions unless other unmentioned factors are present to complicate the difficulty.
It is important that you do make the needed repairs as quickly as possible because operation with the excessive tension outlined in your letter is dangerous to many other parts of the machine. Excessive wear will result on the intermittent sprocket and movement. The increase in fire hazard is also to be given very definite consideration. Only the best of prints without patches of any kind can pass through the projector without real danger, and with each run you are damaging every foot of film that passes through the projector with a gate tension so excessive that you can hardly turn over the projector by hand.
If your projector is a 1916 model, it is, if my memory serves me correctly, a Model 6, not 6-A. Parts for Model 6 have not been manufactured by the projector company that originally produced your machine for the past six or seven years. It is entirely possible that other than genuine Powers parts have been installed in your projector and that these parts deviated from correct tolerances observed by the manufacturer.
they're news!
► The operation of the lateral guide rollers should be checked regularly to be certain that they are turning. If they fail to revolve continuously, a groove will soon be worn in the flat ground surface which contacts the edge of the film preventing their correct future operation.
^ A frequent cause of irregular arc feed may be traced to loose connections of the d. c. arc cables at the lamphouse or power convert-, ing equipment. Resistance is encountered at such loose connections, which alters the voltage of the arc circuit and results in changes of speed in the feed motor. All d. c. connections should be checked regularly to avoid this trouble. —CHARLIE
