They're News Coinciden'l' with the consolidation of the Charles P. Cochrane Company, carpet manufacturers, and its affiliate, the Blueridge Company, to form the LeesCochrane Company, Inc., modernized showrooms were opened in New York early in December. A section of the new display facilities is pictured above. Designed by Raymond Loewy, the rooms include a spacious compartment exclusively for the display of hotel and theatre floor coverings. Lighting Development' Traced The progress of Man's ability to produce and control light is the subject of the third annual publication of the Strong Electric Company, Toledo, recently issued for distribution among exhibitors. Like its predecessors, the volume is impressively representative of the printing arts. Telling the history of lighting by the brief but memorable means of charcoal dravs^ings and captions, the book traces the creation of light sources from the cave man's bonfire through the candle, kerosene lamp, gas lamp and electric lamps of civilization. Government Work Extended Additional Government contracts, covering radio, radar and gun fire control equipment, received by Motiograph, Chicago, will keep the three plants of that projection and sound equipment manufacturer working at full capacity throughout 1945, according to Fred C. Matthews, chief executive. He points out, however, that the company is still producing a limited amount of 35-mm. projection and sound apparatus for essential civilian use.
