Back Wages for 1.500 Film Workers Approved by WLB
Retroactive 10 per cent wage increases for 1,500 film exchange service employees — shippers, inspectors, and poster clerks in nine exchange cities have been approved by regional War Labor Boards. Cities in vifhich the wage increases have been approved are: New York, Buffalo, Albany, Atlanta, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Memphis, Charlotte, and Butte, Mont. Involved is some $495,000 in retroactive pay.
The latest action brings to 17 the number approved _ to date for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees exchange workers. Applications are pending for similar increases before regional Boards, or are in the process of being filed for workers in the remaining 14 exchange cities.
Also pending are additional applications for I ATSE_ exchange office workers, to establish a system of job classifications and ?ninimum and maximum wage scales, plus a 10 per cent increase. Approval _ of these contracts has already been secured in many cities.
Fire Destroys Theatre
The Cherokee tlieatre at Jeff^erson City, Tenn., recently was destroyed by fire with an estimated loss of $15,000. Mrs. C. K. Hutton operated the theatre, located in a building owned by Carl C. Lambkin. They plan to rebuild as soon as possible.

Paramount Theatre Booked Solid to Labor Day
With eight films scheduled, the New York Paramount theatre is booked solid until Labor Day, according to Robert M. Weitman, managing director. Following the current production, "Here Come the Waves," which closes February 6, the Paramount will present Ray Milland in "Ministry of Fear," with Marjorie Reynolds.
This will be followed by "Bring on the Girls," a Technicolor musical, co-starring Veronica Lake and Sonny Tufts. The Easter holiday attraction will be "Practically Yours," directed by Mitchell Leisen and costarring Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert. Alan Ladd plays the title role in "Salty O'Rourke," which will follow the Easter film.
Other films booked are "A Medal for Benny," "Out of This World," "Incendiary Blonde" and "Murder He Says."
Beatrice Lillie Comedy Opens At Republic in New York
"On Approval," the British film comedy starring Beatrice Lillie and Clive Brook, opened Saturday, January 27, at the Republic theatre in New York. The picture was produced by Sydney Box and Mr. Brook. It was released in England by General Film Distributors, the J. Arthur Rank company. English Films, Inc., headed by Nat Sanders, is "distributing the film in the U. S., by arrangement with Eagle-Lion Films, Inc., Mr. Rank's American distributing company. The film opened in London last May. It was reviewed in Motion Picture Herald, May 27, 1944, page 1910 of the Product Digest Section.
