Aided Programs A National Broadcasting Company official told 400 advertising and radio executives, program ^ sponsors and the trade press last Thursday that! its initial use of theatre screens for promotional; purposes had proved successful. i At a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York, Charles P. Hammond, director of ad1, vertising and promotion, explained the exhibit] of NBC's "Parade of Stars" newspaper, display,' screen and direct mail promotion campaign which the network and its affiliated stations executed in! 1944 in support of its top programs. ' For the first time in the annual "Parade ofi Stars" promotion, Mr. Hammond said NBC supported its affiliates' local activities with an eight-' week film trailer campaign. As a feature of the' luncheon, the trailers were screened and results of this phase of the promotion reported, showing; that the trailers were seen in 726 theatres by more than 28,000,000 people in 111 station cities having' a population of 22,000,000. * Each trailer carried two tiein reminders: "See' NBC stars at this theatre. Listen to them over^ NBC" and "See these stars at this theatre." This] vvas the first time a major network had used motion picture theatres so extensively in advertising' promotion. Mr. Hammond pointed out that NBC made a survey of its theatre promotion and found that 70 per cent of the film audiences seeing the trailers identified the names of the stars and NBC, programs and the local station call letters. On-the-air promotion by NBC and its stations' amounted to $4-32,245, based on the lowest station rates. Approximately 1,500,000 lines of advertis-i ing in newspapers were placed; 18,465 car cards,' 408 window and other displays, 459 billboards and', 407 direct-mail pieces were used. I The "Parade of Stars" exhibit will be shown, by NBC at the Palmer House in Chicago, Feb-t ruary 21, and at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Beverly Hills, Cal., April 9. | Film Engineers Hear Talk on j Films for 16mm Projector | Under the auspices of the Society of Motion Picture Engineers, Lieutenant Howard T.
