Whether it was the chivalry of the olden time, or the diction, or both combined that fascinated, it matters not ; the fact remains, it was satisfying. I understood "To Have and To Hold" better after seeing "our beloved Wally" and Mae Murray enact the scenes. I saw it again when Bert Lytell and Betty Compson presented it. They played it well, but somehow, I liked the first rendition better, maybe because of my admiration for Wally. Percival Cooney's "Dons of the Old Pueblo" relates incidents of early days in and about Los Angeles. The plots and counter-plots of the Dons and others, including Kit Carson, Jim Marshall, Gen. Keamey and Commodore Stockton keep your interest to the end. For historic eA^ents and personages this should be a suitable vehicle to travel along with "The Covered Wagon" and other early Western happenings. Caroline Lockhart's "Me-Smith" recounts "doings" of the early Wyoming days, near Billings, Montana. Interesting from start to finish with an unusual ending. It should go well on the screen. Her "Lady Doc" is full of twists and surprises and is a change from the usual run. The "Sea Hawk," by Sabatini, was quite exciting, and am anxiously awaiting its advent on the screen. Several costume plays from old books and dramas stand out in memory with pleasing significance : namely, "David Garrick" with Dustin Farnum ; "Mignon" with House Peters; "The Vicar of Wakefield" with Frederick Warde, and "The Tale of Two Cities" with William Farnum in a dual role.
