1088 Motion Picture News Theatre Construction shows decided Increase Partial list of large weekly reports received on building projects CALIFORNIA San Anselmo — Banker Ballou and Thomas Kent have purchased site for erection of moving picture theatre to cost $50,000. Plans being drawn. Yuba City — Frank Atkins has plans by Architect Hugh Reitcker of Oroville, Cal., for an open air theatre he proposes to build on his lot near the subways in Yuba City. The theatre will be 88 x 128.9 and have a seating capacity of several hundred. Before next winter a roof will be added to complete the building for use the year round. ILLINOIS Chicago — Levine & Rupert, 6951 S. Peoria St, have plans for a two-story theatre, store and office building, 125 x 172, on West 22nd St, costing $500,000. Owner withheld, care of architect Construction of brick, reinforced concrete, terra cotta, fireproof. Architect taking bids. Chicago — Jacob Horowitz of Peters & Horowitz, purchased the triangular block fronting 550 feet southwest on Lincoln Ave., 491 east on Robey St, 244 north on Bell Plaine Ave. and coming to a point at Irving Park Blvd. on the south for the site for a 3,000-seat theatre and business block. The cost will be $1,200,000. Construction will begin shortly. Chicago Heights — Levine & Rupert, 6951 S. Peoria St., have plans for S. G. Gregory Theatrical Co., care of architect, for a three-story theatre, store and office, building, 100 x 126, on West End Ave., costing $350,000. Structure to be of brick, terra cotta, fireproof. Architect will take bids. MASSACHUSETTS Boston— Theatre and hotel to be built by Tremont Street Realty Co., care of W. J. McDonald, 49 Federal St., Boston, on Tremont, corner Hollis St., costing $8,500,000. Architect, Geo. Nelson Meserve, 49 Federal St., Boston. Theatre will seat 4,200 and be of terra cotta and granite walls, steel and reinforced concrete. Plans being drawn. MICHIGAN Detroit— C. R. Brandt, 1114 Kresge Bldg, Detroit, has plans for a theatre and store building, 140 x 160, on the N. E. corner Gratiot Ave. and May St., costing $500,000, owner withheld. Brick and terra cotta. Sketches being made. Flint — John Eberson, 212 E. Superior St., Chicago, drawing plans for a two-story theatre building for the Bijou Theatrical Ent, City Bank Bldg., Flint. Construction of brick and steel. Site not selected. NEW YORK Buffalo — H. L. Spann, 52 W. Chippewa St., has plans for a one-story theatre, 45 x 100, on Grand St., for J. D. Parmelee, 177 Military Road, theatre to be of brick and terra cotta. Architect taking bids. Little Falls — William Berinstein of Albany bought the old Kehoe building on Main St. and will build a theatre which will cost $200,000. Theatre is 44 feet front, 56 feet rear and 120 feet deep. The auditorium will provide for 1,400 people. James L. Cummings of Norwich is architect. New York City—S. J. Kessler, 529 Courtland Ave., drawing plans for A. J. Schwarzler, 369 East 167th St., for a two-story theatre and store building, 150 x 217, on W. S. Morris Ave., for $300,000. Brick and terra cotta. New York City — H. J. Krapp, 116 E. 16th St., drawing plans for I. Benenson, 1938 Grand Concourse, for a one-story theatre, 87 x 100, S. W. corner Hughes Ave. and 186th St. To be of brick. New York City— Nouvel Realty Co., 2720 Decatur Ave., has plans by M. W. DelGaudio, 158 West 45th St., for one-story brick motion picture theatre and store building, 52 x 185, to be erected at the northwest corner Morris Parkway and White Plains Road. Yonkers — H. Creighton Ingalls, 347 Madison Ave., New York City, drawing plans for a theatre, apartment house and department store adjacent to Park Hotel on E. S. McLean Ave., for Ufland & Liftman, Inc., 299 Madison Ave., N. Y. C, to cost $500,000. Owner taking bids. Tupper Lake — A. A. Cluett has formed a partnership with Elmer Labouf for the purpose of building a large modern fireproof theatre building, which will be two stories high, 50 feet wide by 100 feet long and capable of seating 700 people. Work will be started soon. theatre and store building, 68 x 163, on Gravois and Alma Aves., costing $65,000, for the Audrey Realty Co., E. Frc <n, Pres., 614 Chestnut St Construction to begin shortly. St. Louis — Theo. Steinmeyer, Title Guaranty Bldg., drawing plans for a one-story theatre building, 60 x 130, on N. Bway, near Baden St, for Stephen Kaimann, Adelaide Ave., theatre to seat 800. Construction of brick, terra cotta, fireproof. Architect taking bids. NEW JERSEY Newark — E. V. Warren, Essex Bldg., has plans for a two-story theatre, store and office building, 71 x 100, on 19th St. and 16th Ave., for Kahn Bros., care of architect. To be of brick. Architect taking bids on contracts. NORTH CAROLINA Charlotte — Plans have been drawn for R. D. Craver for an eight-story combined film exchange building, and theatre seating 2,000 persons. Theatre to be steel and concrete, fireproof throughout Building would extend 32 feet along Trade St. and back 100 feet. The building located on West Trade St. between Church and Poplar Sts. Project to cost half a million. OHIO Cleveland— W. G. Caldwell, 406 Park Bldg., drawing plans for two-story and basement theatre, store and office building, 123 x 176, on the S. W. corner W. 118th St. and Lorain Ave., for Syndicate of Realtors, H. F. Chester, 207 The Arcade, to cost $100,000. Brick walls, stone trim, composite construction. PENNSYLVANIA Philadelphia— H. H. Klino, 717 Bulletin Bldg., drawing plans for owner, withheld, for onestory theatre building, 52 x 175, on Rising Sun Ave. and Tioga St. Construction to be of brick and steel.
