1156 Motion Picture News Scenes from " Othello," starring Emil Jennings, presented by Ben Blumenthal of Export & Import Changes in Assoc. Exhibitors Sales Personnel W. B. Frank, General Sales Manager of Associated Exhibitors, announced this week the appointment of D. Prettyman as branch sales manager in Salt Lake City, succeeding L. J. Baratte, who died February 13th. Mr. Prettyman is a veteran in the sales end of the industry and is well known, particularly in the West. Mr. Frank announced also the return to Associated's branch office in Chicago of R. J. Morfa, who resigned as a salesman to go into business for himself some months ago. Bert L. Mendelson, of the Kansas City Branch, has been transferred to the Philadelphia sales staff, and S. T. Wilson has been appointed a member of the St. Louis staff. Nazimova Undecided on Next Vehicle Mine. Nazimova's next picture has as yet not been chosen. Whether it will be " Dagmar," in which she is now appearing at the Selwyn theatre, will depend upon the result of a synopsis contest which Mme. Nazimova is inaugurating. Lesser Company to Produce "Uncle Tom's Cabin" A MODERNIZED screen version of Harriet Beecher Stowe's " Uncle Tom's Cabin " will be produced by Principal Pictures Corporation. Sol Lesser, president of Principal Pictures, states that the picture will be produced on an elaborate scale, the entire work being filmed in Los Angeles. The Principal Pictures studios on the West Coast, which occupies an area of over fifteen acres, will be transformed, according to word from Principal Pictures, for the purpose of staging the icepack scenes and winter episodes in the story. It is planned to adhere closely to the story unfolded in the famous novel. Lesser also stated that the screen version of " Uncle Tom's Cabin " would be given to the public in road-show form. The Famous Players-Lasky Corp. made a motion picture production based on the story five years ago. International News Reel Remains with Universal UNIVERSAL will continue to be the distributor of the International News Reel, it is definitely asserted by Edgar B. Hatrick, general manager of the International News Reel Corporation, denying reports that the recent Goldwyn-Cosmopolitan tie-up would affect the news reel. The International News Reel Corporation, explains Hatrick, is a separate and distinct organization from Cosmopolitan Productions, the only thing in common being the fact that William Randolph Hearst is the president of both corpora' tions. "Wonders of the Sea" on the F. B. O. Schedule ii\T T ONDERS OF THE SEA," J. E. yy Williamson's under-water pro-., duction, will be released through the Film Booking Offices of America, according to an announcement issued this week from the F. B. O. Home office. The picture was made by Mr. Williamson in the Bahamas, where it was actually filmed under water by means of the producers' especially constructed apparatus whereby submarine scenes are shown with perfect clearness. " Wonder of the Sea " already has had a three weeks' run on Broadway, New York. It opened at the Rialto theatre early in last October, and the next week was transferred to the Rivoli by Dr. Hugo Riesenfeld. During the week following it played a return engagement at the Rialto. Frank Borzage Elects Pauline Gar on as His Lead Pauline Garon, who played the flapper role in Demille's new picture, " Adam's Rib," has been selected to play the lead in Frank Borzage's initial production for First National release, " Terwilliger." Miss Garon has signed a contract with Arthur H. Jacobs, producer of the new Frank Borzage production series, and will leave New York for California immediately after she has finished an important role in George Melford's latest picture, " You Can't Fool Your Wife." " Terwilliger " is based on the Metropolitan Magazine story by Tristram Tupper. The scenario is being prepared by Agnes Christine Johnston and Frank Dazey. Jacobs and Borzage have practically completed their new organization. 0. 0. Dull will continue as Borzage's assistant, Chet Lyons will be chief cameraman with Bob Robbins as his assistant. Frank 0. Ormstrom has been signed by Jacobs as special art director.
