MM arch i o , 192$ 1159 Pola Negri Starts Work in "The Cheat" Production work on " The Cheat," Pola Negri's second American-made picture, is now well under way at Paramount's West Coast tudio with George Fitzmaurice directing. Playing opposite the Polish star is Jack Holt. In the role of the yellow man of the tory is Charles de Roche. Dorothy Cumming, Robert Sellable, Charles Stevenson and Helen Dunbar complete the cast. " The Cheat " was written for the screen originally nearly a decade ago by Hector Turnbull. It was produced at that time by Cecil B. DeMille with Fannie Ward in the role which Miss Negri plays in the presentday production. Ingram to Make "World's Illusion" for Metro Metro Pictures Corporation has purchased I the screen rights to " The World's Illusion," |by Jacob Wasserman. It will be made into a photoplay by Rex Ingram. Since the publication in 1919 of " The World's Illusion," it has aroused considerable comment. The first volume is concerned with (the brilliant upper-class life of European society and the culture which it has evolved; the i second volume, which introduces us to the 1 hidden horrors upon which this society rests in the lowest proletariat of the cities, described as a very Inferno of the Slums. Scenes from the Associated Exhibitor's release, "Is D ivorce a Failuree" featuring Leah Baird Schertzinger to Do "Mansion of Aching Hearts" The first of the series of special productions to be made by Victor L. Schertzinger for Preferred Pictures, according to an announcement J made by B. P. Schulberg, is " A Mansion of I Aching Hearts." This is based on the song , by Harry Von Tilzer and Arthur J. Lamb, which was first published in 1902. Geo. Jeffrey with Lichtman as Special Representative George S. Jeffrey has just joined the Al Lichtman Corporation as special representative and will open the new Buffalo exchange. Mr. Jeffrey has been associated with Mr. Lichtman in different capacities for the past five years. He was with him at Famous Players as sales manager for the Dominion of Canada and served in a similar capacity in the East when Mr. Lichtman was connected with Associated Producers. Fairbanks 9 Special Representative in Europe The showing of " Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood " in Europe is to be in charge of R. W. McFarland, who was specially engaged for that purpose by Douglas Fairbanks. Mr. McFarland is now in London, where he will make his headquarters. He will have charge of all showings of the picture in the British Isles, Ireland and Continental Europe. While his principal connection will be in London, Mr. McFarland also will have offices in Paris, from which point he will handle matters relating to showings of " Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood " in various other countries of Europe. Tod Browning Is Signed by Goldwyn to Direct Tod Browning has been engaged by Goldwyn Pictures under a long-term contract to direct some of its forthcoming big productions. Browning started his screen career as an actor under D. W. Griffith. As a director he has been associated with Fine Arts, Majestic, Metro, and during recent years with Universal. He has directed some of Priscilla Dean's biggest productions for the latter company, including " The Virgin of Stamboul," " Outside the Law " and " Under Two Flags." "Quicksands," a Howard Hawks production with Helen Chadwick, Richard Dix and other notables, an American Releasing Corporation picture, contains the above scenes Goldwyn Will Produce "Master of Man" Goldwyn Pictures Corporation has purchased the motion picture rights to Sir Hall Caine's novel, " The Master of Man." Goldwyn recently renewed negotiations for the screen rights to Sir Hall's story and the fact that it had just made such an elaborate and fine a production of this author's early big success, " The Christian," undoubtedly had much to do with the successful result of the renewed negotiations.
