J E S S E N ' S PRODUCTION NOTES BY WIRE Studio and Player Brevities LITTLE STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE ON THE LOT On the Goldwyn Lot A partial cast for Von Stroheim's "Greed"' originally titled "McTeague" has been engaged. It includes Gibson Gowland, Zazu Pitts, Dale Fuller, Ceasare Gravina, Chester Conklin, Sylvia Ashton, Frank Hayes. Ouida Bergere has completed a script for Elinor Glynn's " Six Days" to be directed by Charles Brabin. It will star Corinne Griffith. Claude King has been selected for an important part. Miss Bergere is leaving for New York and Europe. Sam DeGrasse has been added to the cast of "The Spoilers" in the role of Judge Stillman. Charles H. W est has been added to the cast of the Clarence Badger directed subject " Red Lights." Lucien Littlefield has been added to the cast of the King Vidor directed production "Three Wise Fools." The Goldwyn studios have been equipped with a monster wireless device for directors to use in the making of mob scenes. It was installed by the Western Electric company and the device will eliminate call boys and numerous assistant directors. Carey Wilson, who has been an associate editor in the Goldwyn scenario department for nearly two years, has signed a new contract by the terms of which he remains with the Goldwyn organization as associate editor for another year. Here and There Irving Cummings has completed "East Side West Side." which is now l>eing edited for distribution by Principal Pictures. William P. S. Karle has engaged Carmcl Myers for the lead, Malcolm Mcdrcgor and Sam DeGrasse for important roles in " King Tutankhamen." William Duncan is completing his work for Yitagraph this week under his former contract, when feature productions will be finished. He takes up a new contract with Universal immediately. Lee Moran. directed by Arvid Gillstrom, has completed the first " You Know Me, Al " comedy, with the exception of scenes to he made at New Orleans with tin Yankees. Marlin, Texas, with the (iiants and San Antonio with the \\ bite Sox. Moran and Gillstrom are leaving Saturday for the east, and will takescenes with the professionals en route to New York. Creighton Hale has been engaged by Richard Walton Tully to take the role of " Little Billy " in " Trilby." Edmund Lowe will play the role of Svengali. Tom Forman has completed filming "April Showers " and has gone to Xew Mexico to select locations for "The Broken Wing," from a play by Paul Dickey and Charles Goddard. When L. J. Gasnier completes " Daughters of the Rich," he will film " Daughters of the Poor," an original story being prepared by B. P. Scbulberg scenario staff making the fourth of the Gasnier series of this class of production. Conway Tearle and Wallace Beery have been engaged for " Ashes of Vengeance," starring Norma Talmadge, under the direction of Frank Lloyd from a novel by H. B. Somerville. Work begins within two or three weeks. Eddie Cline has completed the Buster Keaton production titled " Three Ages." On April 15th another troupe of C. C. Burr's All-Star comedy players will leave for Bermuda to film special exteriors for the next AllStar comedy, featuring Kathlene Martyn. Charlie Murray and Ray McKee. Earl Hurd is putting the finishing touches to his new cartoon comedy for C. C. Burr. No name has been chosen for it yet. It will follow " Chicken Dressing " and " Railroading." Raymond McKee. featured player in C. C. Burr's All-Star comedies, has announced his engagement and coining marriage to Marguerite Courtot. well known actress. McKee will spend his honeymoon in Bermuda, when he goes there with other All-Star Comedy players the 15th of next month. Cleo Madison is the third player to be chosen by E. deB. Newman and Director Robert Thornby for the stellar support of Guy Bates Post, in the production of " The Man From Ten Strike." jimmy Aubrey, whose current release by Yitagraph is " Forward March " has begun work on another comedy. " The Detective." Allen Holubar's "Slander the Woman," starring Dorothy Phillips, which is a l i st National release, is in its final stages of cutting and editing. Renny Ale\?:ider has been selected to play the role of Penrod in First National's production of " Penrod and Sam." which is to be made at the Hollywood studio. William Beaudinc will direct. " W andering Daughters," a First National picture now being made by James Young, will contain one of the most extravagant ball room scenes in the history of motion pictures. Eleanor Coffee and John Goodrich, who have been engaged by Principal Pictures Corporation to adapt the series of Harold Bell Wright stories for the screen, are preparing for a novel trip in quest of data pertaining to the first of the Wright series, "The Winning of Barbara Worth." John Robertson is completing arrangements for starting " The Fighting Blade," a Cromwellian romance by Beulah Marie Dix in which Richard Barthelmess will star. At first it was planned to photograph the exterior scenes in England, but later this plan had to be abandoned. Most of the interiors, it is announced, will be made in Fort Lee, New Jersey. George Hackathorne is about half through his work in "The Atonement," his first picture in many months in which he has not appeared as a cripple. Gustav Seyffertitz is now in Banff, Canada, appearing in exterior scenes of a Cosmopolitan production. Hedda Hopper returned to NewYork last Saturday on the Paris from a European tour which embraced London, Paris, Nice, St. Moritz. Monte Carlo and the Riviera. She expects to leave within a few days for Hollywood to commence an engagement under a newcontract. Hugo and Mabel Ballin were practically ready to leave for New York a couple of weeks ago, but now word comes from Hollywood that it is probable that they will produce another picture in California before coming East. With Paramount Units George Melford will next film " Salomy Jane," for w hich WaJ.demar Young is now completing the film version of the Bret Hartc story. Melford is now finishing up on " You Can't Fool Your Wife," in which cast are Leatrice Joy, Nita Naldi and Pauline Garon. Joseph Henabery has made the final scenes for " Sixty Cents an Hour," starring Walter Hiers, who has left on a personal appearance tour. Tom Geraghty is completing the continuity of the Walter Woods story, "Fair Week," to be Walter Hier's next vehicle, directed by Robert Wagner. William DeMille has started film ing " Only 38," with a cast including Elliott Dexter, May MacAvoy, George Fawcett, Lois Wilson and others. Herbert Brenon next week begins " The Woman with Four Faces," starring Betty Compson. James Cruze is expected from New York next week to complete " Hollywood," Frank C o n d o n's story adapted by Tom Geraghty. In production is " The Cheat," starring Pola Negri, under the direction of George Fitzmaurice. East and West with Fox Tom Mix and company are home from Truckee. where exteriors were made for " The Journey of Death," under the direction of Jack Ford. Katherine Key plays the feminine lead. The Scott Dunlap directed company is back from the north, where scenes were made for " The Snow Drift," which features Charles Jones with Irene Rich, lead. Additional care is being given to the making of this picture, which is scheduled to be a special production. Henry Otto has been engaged to direct Shirley Mason in " Balance Due," by George Scarborough. Albert Roscoe is playing opposite, in the leading male role. William Russell has completed work in " Alias, the Night Wind," under direction of Joseph Franz, with Maud Wayne lead. Lynn Reynolds has begun filming " The Gun Fighter," starring William Farnum, with Doris May, opposite. Around Metro Studios Renee Adoree has been placed under a five-year contract by Louis B. Mayer, her first work as lead for Reginald Barker in the adapted version of " The Law Bringers." Huntley Gordon, who has been placed under contract, will play his first role in John Stahl's next production. Paul Bern has been added to the Mayer scenario staff. He is now preparing a continuity for the next John Stahl production. Reginald Barker and company have returned from ten days in northern California, where snow scenes were made. The company will later go to Wainwright, Canada, to make scenes in the Canadian National Park. Barbara LaMarr has been engaged for the lead in "Captain Applejack." Garvillas, France, a town of supposed four thousand population, requiring sets covering sixty acres, has been built at die Lasky Ranch for use by Rex Ingram, who. this week starts production of " Scaramouche."
