Capitol The world premiere of Goldwyn's new Rupert Hughes picture, " Souls For Sale," was held at the Capitol theatre, New York, 011 Tuesday morning of this week before an invited audience of between 3,000 and 4,000 enthusiastic persons. Many of these were iinportant exhibitors from New York City aiid from the territory served by the branch exchanges here, in Boston, New Haven, Albany, Philadelphia and Buffalo. Representatives of the New York daily press, of the motion picture trade journals, of the fan magazines, and officials of various film producing organizations attended. S. L. Rothafel of the Capitol theatre arranged the presentation " The film is going to do pictures a world of good," was the consensus of various exhibitors and producers. " It will show the public that motion picture players are hardworking, conscientious persons, who want to do their task well and earn the commendation of picture patrons. They have the same aspirations as well as the same weaknesses that do persons in ordinary walks of life. It's got great audience appeal." Hodkinson Lists "Affairs of Lady Hamilton" " The Affairs of Lady Hamilton," an eightreel special production, is announced as the scheduled release of the W. W. Hodkinson Corporation for April 15. " The Affairs of Lady Hamilton " taps the well of historical love stories surrounding the colorful career of Lord Nelson, popular English naval hero, and is said to be lavishly presented. The production is the work of Richard Oswald for the Sterling Film Corporation, and features Liane Haid in the role of Lady Hamilton. Conrad Yeidt plays the role of Lord Nelson. Randolph Bart'lett edited the titles. Scenes taken from Modern Marriage," which co-stars Francis X. Bushman and Beverly Bayne. American Releasing Corporation the distributor. Story that Charles Jones Is Leaving Fox Denied FROM the headquarters of the Fox Film Corporation at New York comes the statement that there is no foundation to the rumor that Charles Jones is to sever connections with that company. Jones has just completed playing the leading role in "The Eleventh Hour," a Lincoln J. Carter stage melodrama made into a photoplay. F.B.O. Acquires Stories for New Season " Alex the Great," a romantic adventure story with a baseball flavor, written by H. C. ^Yitwer, has been purchased by F. B. O. from Small, Maynard and Company. Mr. Whwer's " Fighting Blood " stories have already been filmed by F. B. O., and a new series by him is now appearing in Cosmopolitan Magazine will reach the screen shortly through F. B. O. " Alex the Great " will be transferred to the screen as a feature picture. Edison Marshall, noted writer of stories of the outdoors, will contribute " The Isle of Retribution " to the screen through F. B. 0. This is a story of the Northwest. It has been highly popular as a novel. " Life, Liberty and ■ ," by Wyndham Martin, which appeared recently in Everybody's Magazine, will serve as a vehicle for one of the F. B. O. male stars. It is a story moving against a background of sporting life. Martin is also the author of " The Man from the Desert," a forthcoming Harry Carey production. Marvin Wilhite is the author of " Quemado," a western story, which will be picturized by F. B. O. It appeared as a novelette in Popular Magazine. " The Flaming Soul," another recent purchase, is from the pen of Maravene Thompson, whose play, " The Net," enjoyed a highly successful run on Broadway recently. Some highlights taken from Metro's release titled " Her Fatal Millions," starring Viola Dana. $34,000 to Winners of Amer. Releasing Drive Thirty-four thousand dollars in gold is the cash bonus to be awarded to managers, salesmen and bookers of the American Releasing Corporation who win first places in American Releasing's spring drive, which started March 19th and will last for a period of twelve weeks. This sum represents, according to the claim of American Releasing officials, the largest cash bonus ever offered in motion picture circles for a similar purpose.
