April 7, 192s 1701 "Our Gang' ' Tops Pathe Program "Boys to Board" Heads Nine Subjects Scheduled for Release April 8 MICKEY DANIELS, Jackie Condon, Jackie Davis, Sunshine Sammy, Little Farina and their loyal "Our Gang" bulldog, in the comic juvenile riot called "Boys to Board" head Pathe's list of nine releases announced for' April 8. This 2-reeler is a characteristic Hal Roach screen story of what happens when "Our Gang" mutinies in avaricious "Mother" Malone's Dickensesque hoarding school. The down-trodden husband of the ogress joins the small mutineers β€” and after the dust clears away "Pop" Malone is boss and there's "chicken with gravy." "Plunder" reaches its 11th episode called "Spunk," in which Pearl White, disguised as a "tough girl" thrills in her episode role ef a fearless heroine in a frightful sailor's lodging house free fight, after finding the man she loves maddened by poison-fumes, in the torture scheme of three strange enemies. Paul Parrott is the hero of the Hal Roach book agent 1-reel comic spasm called "Keep Smiling." The Aesop's Film Fable release is called "Day By Day In Every Way." Henry Cat believes every word of it. He tries it on a hen on her nest β€” wtih highly profitable results. The latest big world events are pictured in Pathe News Nos. 30 and 31, and Topics of the Day No. 14 supplies its standard quota of witty flashes. In Pathe Review No. 14 there is a novel section showing the entire process of presenting to ordinary view the strange things "seen" by "The Camera Eye" β€” of deep interest to everyone owing to the fad of Pathe Announces Two Kiser Art Releases IN response to inquiries from exhibitors, Pathe announced the forthcoming release of two more Kiser Art Films in the Oregon Trail Series. Patron interest in these beautifully photographed stories dealing with great industries and the picturesque scenery of the far Northwest is said to have gained steadily since the first release, "The Price of Progress," with its realistic drama of the timber industry. "Fleeced for Gold," with its sheep range scenes, and "The Royal Chinook," picturing the life of Columbia River salmon, are credited with a record equally popular. Two other releases announced in this series are: "The Crystal Ascension," picturing the wonders revealed in a journey through the snows and mists to the summit of Mount Hood, and a Pacific Coast Indian Legend entitled, "Weeping Waters." photography. In the new Pathecolor series with the process applied to American Scenics, the Missions of California are screened with highly realistic and charming results. "Adventures in Dreamland" are pictured in the form of "Silliettes,'^ and "Wood-Workers of Syria" shows remarkable things achieved where machines are tin-known. Screen Snapshots No. 23 shows these picture favorites in varied scenes: Directors Hugo Ballin and George Walsh in military action ; Claire Windsor, Patsy Ruth Miller, Helen Ferguson and Eleanor Boardman spend a quiet evening at home ; Theodore Roberts brings a pet home to his wife, Lew Cody and Bert Lytell are interrupted at a duel, and Gaston Glass and Marion Mack introduce a new game. Christie Cast Returns With Snow Scenes After suffering about all the ills that might happen to a motion picture company in the snow countrv, Al Christies and his cast and staff are back from Truckee, where thev have been making "Winter Has Came," a story of life on a NewEngland farm and a daughter returned from Paris. Dorothy Devorc plays the daugh ter and is surrounded by an unusually big cast of well known people, including Earl Rodney, Babe London, William Irving, Lydia Yeamans Titus, William Chapman, Victor Rodman, George French and Bob North. The new picture will be ready for release in May and will follow such Christie pictures as "A Hula Honeymoon," " Babies Welcome," " Hot Water," " Green as Grass," and " Take Your Choice," which Mickey Daniels Signs Long Contract Genuine screen talent plus championship in the freckles class has won a five-year Hal Roach contiact for seven-year-old Mickey Daniels. Mickey is best and most widely known as one of the stars in the two-reel Our Gang Comedies distributed by Pathe. He also comes oiit strong with Harold Lloyd in " Dr. Jack "β€”the " sick " schoolboy who recovers instantlv when the shrewd young doctor hero remarks that " the school house has burned down." Creation of Life in Bray Romance The " Romance of Life " is the title of the Bray Romance to be released through the W. W. Hodkinson Corporation. It presents the creation of life from the very beginning, passing through all of the stages of plant and animal life until the development of man. WEST 52** ST., NEW YORK Sarah Bernhardt Views Shown International News Rushes Memorial Sujects to Broadway Theatres LESS than seven hours after the announcement of the death of Mme. Sarah Bernhardt reached New York the International News Reel Corporation had prepared a 200-foot Sarah Bernhardt Memorial, of varied and exclusive shots, showing the famous actress in many striking pos s. These memorial subjects were used by the Capitol, the Rialto, the Rivon and the Strand theatres in New York City. International's Film Obituary of Mme. Bernhardt was ready in negative form, awaiting word of her death. As soon as that was received it was rushed to the factory, where prints were made. The Bernhardt Memorial is being included in International News No. 27, which was shipped to all Universal exchanges Tuesday. This establishes one of the most efficient records in the news reel field. Marguerite Courtot, appearing in "Down to the Sea in Ships," distributed by Hodkinson. Novel Exploitation on Arrow Serial An extremely novel and effective means of advertising Arrow's serial, "The Fighting Skipper" was issued by that organization this week. This consists of a card showing a newsboy offering an "extra" for sale. Tucked under his left arm is a miniature newspaper devoted to "The Fighting Skipper,'1 which serial, by the way, is reported by Arrow to be doing splendid business throughout the country, there being but a few territories remaining unsold, although the picture has just been released. This serial was produced by Francis Ford and stars Peggy O'Day, Jack Perrin and Francis Ford.
