Reconstructing Fine Arts Studios Modern Structure to Be Built on Old Site; Improvements to Cost $250 ,000 A WRECKING crew is busy at the Fine Arts studios in Hollywood, Cal., tearing down the wooden buildings that have been standing on the " lot " since 1913 and which were constructed and used by D. W. Griffith during the filming of his " Intolerance," " The Clansman " and other wellknown plays for the screen. In place of the wooden structures the studio is to erect stucco buildings of the latest design and with every modern improvement. Twentyseven new dressing rooms and fourteen executive offices have already been constructed as part of the studios' expansion plan. Arrangements have been made to remodel the plant without interfering with production activity of the various companies working there. The wooden buildings facing on Sunset boulevard and extending a distance of one city block, are to be dismantled to make room for the construction of a row of cement buildings of Spanish architecture, which the studio is to rent out as stores to private individuals. One of the city's largest banking institutions has already arranged to establish a branch bank in the building nearest to the corner of Sunset and Hollywood boulevards. According to Nat Deverich, president, and John Rikkleman, secretary and treasurer of Fine Arts, an appropriation of $250,000 has been made for the proposed improvements to the property, which for the past three years they have been operating on a leasing basis to independent producers. When the reconstruction work is completed the studio will be one of the most up-to-date film plants on the West coast, they state. The atmosphere and settings of " The Soul of the strikingly set forth in the Beast," an Ince production for Metro release are above group of shots." "Fortune of Christina McNab' ' Due in May " The Fortune of Christina McNab " is announced by Playgoers Pictures for release May 27. Christina, a Scottish girl, accustomed to live on cold mutton and a dress allowance of next to nothing a year, suddenly finds herself left with an income of $150,000. How to spend it is a problem involved in the picture.
