October 21, 1916 ACCESSORY NEWS SECTION 2573 The Society of Motion Picture Engineers^ Annual Meeting THE second meeting of the Society of Motion Picture Engineers was held at the Hotel Astor, New York City, on Tuesday, October 3d. The following incorporators were present : C. Francis Jenkins, Washington, D. C; Don J. Bell, Chicago, 111.; E. Kendall Gillett, New York City, and Herbert Miles, New York City. The following new members were unanimously elected for regular membership, making a total enrollment of twenty-four regularly enrolled members of the Society: C. A. Akeley, Akeley Camera, Inc., New York City; G. F. Badgley, Badgley Cinema Company, Inc., New Rochelle, N. Y. ; H. A. Campe, Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Company, East Pittsburgh, Pa. ; H. B. Coles, Coles Picture Machine Corporation, New York City; H. T. Edwards, Picture Theatre Equipment Company, New York City; R. G. Hastings, Motion Picture Apparatus Company, Inc., New York City; M. D. Kopple, American Standard Motion Picture Machine Company, New York City; William C. Kunzmann, National Carbon Company, Cleveland, Ohio; Max Mayer, M. J. Wohl & Company, Brooklyn, N. Y. ; B. A. Proctor, Kinoikon Apparatus Corporation, Bridgeton, N. J. ; F. H. Richardson, Moving Picture World, New York City; A. S. Victor, Victor Animatograph Company, Davenport, Iowa; R. E. VomSaal, New York City; H. M. Wible, Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Company, East Pittsburgh, Pa., and H. T. Wilkins, Special Engineer, Pennsylvania Railroad. Several speeches were made covering the objects of the Society and the great need of its existence, which as stated in the constitution and by-laws is for the advancement in the theory and practice of motion picture engineering and its allied arts and sciences, the standardization of the mechanisms, and practices employed therein, and the maintenance of a high professional standing among its members. The following officers were elected : C. Francis Jenkins of the Graphoscope Company, Washington, D. C, was made permanent president of the Society for the regular term of one year ; Don J. Bell of the Bell & Howell Company, Chicago, was made vicepresident of the Society for a term of two years ; E. M. Porter of the Precision Machine Company, New York City, was chosen vice-president of the Society for a term of one year; E. K. Gillett. New York City, was chosen permanent secretary, and Paul Brockett, of the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D. C, treasurer. The Board of Directors were elected as follows : H. B. Coles, Coles Picture Machine Corporation, New York City, 2 years ; H. T. Edwards, Picture Theatre Equipment Company, New York City, 2 years ; H. A. Campe, Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Company, E. Pittsburgh, Pa., 1 year; W. B. Westcott, Kalmus, Comstock & Westcott, Boston, Mass., 1 year. The Board of Governors, together with the president, were made the Publicity Committee, H. T. Edwards being appointed as chairman of this committee. In order that the membership of the Society might be increased as much as possible and its aims and intentions brought to the attention of as many as possible, the Membership Committee was made a committee of the whole, all the present members being responsible for the bringing in of other members in their special line of work. In the appointing of committees several men were named and appointed, who were not at the present time actual members of the Society. However, in every case it was understood that these men had expressed an intention of joining the Society. The following committees were appointed : Committee on Cameras and Perforation : Don J.
