His first engagements were with Kalem and Edison Companies during summers, while he was on the stage in the winter. In 1910 he went with Melies to the San Antonio, Texas, studios, and in 1913 became a stock member with the Universal where he has remained since, playing the lead in comedies, the Butler in "Lucile Love," Count in "Broken Coin," with Robert Leonard juvenile lead in "The Woman Who Followed Me." Mr. Shields' legitimate stage career includes seasons with Robert Edeson; three years Bush Temple, Chicago; two years in "Parsifal," and stock in New York, Brooklyn, stage manager for the Shuberts one season. Mr. Shields was born August 5, 1884, height WILLIAM PARKER, FEATURE WRITER s five feet nine inches, weight one hundred and forty pounds, dark complexioned, ^ 3 brown hair and brown eyes. Los Angeles Examiner and Los Angeles Herald in capacity of telegraph editor, paragraphist and editorial writer. Sold first scenario to Frank Wood», Griffith Studio, eighteen months ago. Joined American staff at Santa Barbara at personal solicitation of S. S. Hutchinson. Left Santa Barbara to join Universal staff in order to _ obtain wider scope in writing.
