/ u I y 2 , i 9 2 i 229 Bosworth Starting New Feature Picture Featuring a spectacular story and an all-star cast, Mobart Bosworth's second independent picture for Associated Producers' distribution temporarily titled " Renunciation," entered production this week at the Thomas H. Ince Studios, Culver City, where the Hobart Bosworth Productions, Inc., are headquartering. An original story by Emily Johnson, adapted to the screen by Joseph Franklin Poland, " Renunciation" is said to be a colorful and gripping drama of Alaska of the good rush period and America of today. Bosworth will appear in the leading characterization, that of an Alaskan prospector. Heading the all-star support is Madge Bellamy, former Broadway stage favorite. William Conklin, Wade Boetler, Henry J. Herbert, Irene Blackwell, Colette Forbes, Lula Warrenton and others are in the cast. Goldwyn's High Class Scenario Staff Goldwyn points with pride to its editorial department, which will continue its splendid work during the company's fifth year. J. J. Hawkes will remain as head of the department. Julian Josephson will be one of Mr. Hawkes chief assistants. Clayton Hamilton, former New York dramatic critic, has renewed his contract, and others on the staff are Charles Kenyon, Paul Bern, Ralph Block, in charge of the Eastern editorial department. New Irvin Willat Feature " The Face of the World," Hodkinson Release Reaches N. Y. Office "-THE FACE OF 1 \\ THE W ORLD," Irvin V. Willat's third independent production for Hodkinson release, was pre-viewed bv the officials of the company on Thursday, June 16, and all were unanimous in declaring it to be one of the greatest productions which this director has thus far brought to the screen, announces Hodkinson. Particularly worthy of comment is the excellent work done by the two featured players, Barbara Bedford and Edward Hearn. Barbara Bedford will be remembered for her performance in Maurice Tourneur's production, " The Last of the Mohicans," while Edward Hearn has appeared recently in many screen successes, prominent among them the Hodkinson release, " Keeping Up With Lizzie," which was made by the Rockett Film Corporation, under the direction of Lloyd Ingraham from Irving Bacheller's comedy. In this production Mr. Hearn played opposite Enid Bennett. Arrangements are now being completed by the Hodkinson Corporation for an advertising and exploitation campagn on " The Face of the World." C. A. ("'Doc") Willat, president of Willat Productions, Inc., who is in Xew York at the present time, has just purchased for his company "Fifty Candles," a Saturday Evening Post story by Earl Derr Big gers, which will be their next production for Hodkinson release. Mr. Biggers is well and favorably known as an author of stories, among which may be mentioned the stage play, " Seven Keys to Baldpate." He is also the author of the novel, " Love Insurance," which was adapted to the screen for Bryant Washburn's use. "Fifty Candles" was written in Honolulu during his stay there, and is a mystery story of rarely engrossing quality. "A Question of Honor" Cast is Announced Adcle Farrington and Mary Land have been added to the cast, supporting Anita Stewart in Ruth Cross' " A Question of Honor," a Louis B. MayerFirst National attraction, being directed by Edwin Carewe. The completed cast now reads: Anita Stewart as Anne Wilmot, Arthur Stuart Hull as Loon Morse, Edward Hearnc as Scott Glenn, Frank Bcal as Robert Douglas, Ed. Brady as John Dretton, Bert Sprotte as Durkhalter, Walt Whitman as Sheb, Adele Farrington as Mrs. Elton, and Mary Land as Mrs. Wilmot. Josephine Quirk prepared the scenario and Robert B. Kurrle is in charge of the photography. Eileen Sedgwick Able to Continue Serial Universal's latest serial, -" Terror Trail," will not be postponed on account of Eileen Sedgwick's operation for appendicitis. After the daring star had completed four episodes of the picture it became necessary for her to go to a hospital, and it was feared that her recovery would be so gradual as to necessitate the postponing of the serial on which she was working, which was schedued for release in most Universal exchanges on July 11. Miss Sedgwick, however, made rapid recovery and is once more able to proceed with her work in the serial. " Terror Trail " will therefore start on schedule time, overlapping by one week the eighteenth episode of " The White Horseman." Norma Talmadge Favorite of Northwest Norma Talmadge was the winner of the film star popularity contest conducted by the Duluth News Tribune of Duluth, Minn., recently. Miss Talmadge won by a large majority and Constance Talmadge ranked fourth. Charles Ray was voted the favorite male star. Charles Ray is Favorite in College Town The senior class of Wesleyan University, at Middletown, Conn., on the eve of its graduation voted Charles Ray as the most popular picture actor and Elaine Hammerstein its favorite film actress. Both winners had votes to spare, though the contest was open to the entire field of stars. Announcement The Palmer Photoplay Corporation announces the consolidation of the play brokerage agency of ALFRED A. COHN with its Photoplay Sales Department. With the merging of these two interests Mr. Cohn becomes Director of Sales of the Photoplay Sales Department of the Palmer Photoplay Corporation.
