While this book is not a press book in the accepted sense of the word, it will prove valuable to both exchanges and exhibitors. Spectacular Air Attack on Warship Is Shown The air-bombing of the obsolete warship Alabama pictured in Pathe News, current issue No. 78, furnishes the motion picture screen ^vith several of the most startling views ever presented to the public. Army planes, equipped with giant bombs weighing from 100 to 300 pounds loaded with TNT, are seen in battle action. The most spectacular display is made by a phosphorus bomb exploding above the Alabama and completely hiding it under a mountainous greyish-white "smoke screen." Finally, there is a close-up of the sinking vessel, its deck works all a mass of twisted iron and steel. Hitchcock and Normand in Screen Snapshots No less celebrities than Raymond Hitchcock, the famous comedian, and Mabel Normand, the popular comedienne, are the " headliners " in the next issue of Screen Snapshots, the " fan " news reel. Mr. Hitchcock and Miss Normand have a special Sunday for Screen Snapshots, when a cameraman and director from Mr. Cohn's staff spent the day, at Mr. Hitchcock's invitation, at his country estate on Long Island, where Miss Normand was a guest. Film Names Release Big Independent by King's "The OPENING their fall campaign with a new Society Drama Series of four high-class productions of a very special nature and promising an output of important pictures for the independent market during the coming \ear that w ill be of unusual interest to state rights buying exchanges, J. W. Film Corporation announces as their initial offering a Burton King production, entitled, " The Road to Arcady." The new King feature is the first of the Society Drama Series, all four of which will be announced and released in rapid succession and sold either as a series or singly, as the conditions in the different territories may warrant. The story of Burton King's contribution to the Society Drama Series is laid in New York's famous Four Hundred, and gives many opportunities for elaborate stage settings and beautiful gowns. The plot of "The Road to Arcady" deals with an interesting angle of the question of whether a young Program Headed Road to Arcady " girl's sense of filial duty is as strong as her love for a man. The question is complicated because the lovely daughter learns that both the financial status and social prestige of her parents are' tottering. Her choice is made tragic because it is influenced by deliberate deception and the climax is said to be not only unusual, but astounding. The selection of " The Road to Arcady" to introduce the series was prompted, according to E. S. Alanheimer, of J. W. Film Corporation, by a desire to give as clear an idea as possible of the type of production of which the set will be composed. Mr. Manheimer feels that there is a real need of highclass, dignified pictures for the independent market to enable the state rights exchanges to meet the demands of the best theatres in their territories. He is endeavoring to supply productions that not only allow for elaborate presentations, but have exceptional advertising possibilities. Critics Praise "Judgment" World Film's Big Historical Drama Has Notable Reception MILTON C. WORK, president of the World Film Corporation, is the authority for the statement that his organization's big spectacular drama, " Judgment," recently announced for the independent market, has received the most unusual tributes from everj' reviewer in the trade paper field. The consensus of the opinions of all the blase critics corralled by \\'orld Film to witness one of the first showings of the production is that " Judgment " is one of the really big pictures of the year, admirably produced and directed and with a remarkably interesting and dramatic story. One reviewer even goes so far as to say that this is the finest European production brought to these shores to date and declares that it should shatter box office records. "Judgment" is from Victor Hugo's drama, " Mary Tudor," and the role of Mary is in the hands of a newcomer to the Atnerican screen, Ellen Richter. Critics declare Miss Richter to be a star who will electrify the country as did Pola Negri, according to a statement from the World offices, and her portrayal of Queen Mary is said to be unequalled for its reality and dignity. "Judgment" is one of the W'orld's biggest offerings for the fall, to the independent market and this organization, though one of the pioneer film concerns of the industry', has stepped into the ranks of the most important distributors of features almost overnight. Its second big production, " Suspicious Wives," starring Mollie King, is proving one of the big successes of the year, it is said, and territories are selling fast on this offering. Other new pictures being distributed by World, are the five dramas featuring Joe Moore and Eileen Sedgwick and the latest of these productions to be released is a drama of the Canadian Northwest Mounted, entitled, "Arrest Norma MacGregor." To Distribute Urban Product in Canada Contractual arrangements have been completed between the Kineto Company of America, Inc. and Charles L. Stephenson, of 285^2 Adelaide St., East, Toronto, Canada, whereby the latter secures distribution rights in Canada and Newfoundland for the Kineto Reviews and Charles Urban's Movie Chats.
