The ocular opening (O) of the microscope is provided with a special shutter (A), which opens itself when touched with the eye and closes itself when the observation is completed, thus preventing the ocular from being opened through negligence. This device is especially valuable for observation during the taking of a picture when both hands of the operator can be free to serve the handle and the blinders. A magnifying glass placed on the side of the camera permits inspection of the picture by someone other than the operator. Finder. A camera finder (C) is provided in addition to the Focusmicroscope. The optic axis of this finder is located vertically over the axis of the objective camera lense and is parallel to it. In front of the frosted glass plate of the finder can be placed interchangeable vignettes which produce an exact similarity between the finder image and the film image. Figure 2 II Superimposed Picture Attachment In the modern moving picture industry it is often necessary that one picture shall include objects in two different fields, such as in the case of apparitions, visions, ghosts, etc. (See Fig. 3.) To obtain an effect of this sort it is customary to take the pictures one after another on the same film, which requires a return movement of the film to take the second picture. This method takes time, is expensive and is also inexact. If the picture demands that the actions of the actors in two different places shall correspond, then considerable difficulties are met with when the photographing is done at different times. It is impossible to reach a good collective acting and harmony in the movements of the actors can only approximately be reached by counting the revolutions which often results in the entire picture being spoiled. With the Superimposed Picture Attachment these difficulties will be over come. The Superimposed Picture tachment makes possible, by the empl ment of two objectives, the taking f photographs of actions in two differ t fields on the same film at the same tii :. It consists of a small camera (Nj whi can be placed on the left-hand side of t camera after the Focusmicroscope s been removed.
