2190h Pioneer Projector Manufacturers (Continued from page 2190a) the optical axis, and by the use of a positive carbon, having a large core saturated with special light emitting salts, a more intense illumination is secured than with the former type of lamp and carbons (b) The feed is practically automatic, having a continuous mechanical feed that is free from the complications and annoyances found in connection with electrical automatic feeds. Large Lamphouse For the purpose of providing for two types of lamps, as well as for better ventilation and the elimination of heat, the lamphouse has been considerably enlarged. This feature is a great cotnenience in changing carbons, and will be much appreciated by the operator. H. A. Larscii, Superintendent Pilot Lights (a) For convenience in threading the mechanism for framing the picture, for examination, etc., on the operator's side, a pilot light has been placed in the right hand side of the mechanism. An automatic switch turns on the light as soon as the right hand door is opened and extinguishes it when it is closed. The light is operated by a small 3-cell battery located in a neat casing on the rear side of the top magazine. (b) A pilot light is also proved for the lamphouse. This the operator will find a great convenience in the exchange of carbons, making adjustments or repairs to the lamp, etc. Large Magazines The 3,000-ft. magazines which have proven so popular and are furnished only with the DeLuxe Motiograph, have been still further enlarged in width so as to provide greater clearance when using reels that have become warped so they wobble. Motor Throwout A throwout lever disengages the double friction disc speed control spindle from the mechanism, and eliminates all excess burden, in case at any time, it is desired to operate by hand. Strength The new DeLuxe machine is massive and rigid in design and construction throughout, including the stand, lamphouse and mechanism. Besides contributing to durability, this factor is of vital importance in the projection of steady pictures, as it prevents vibratior.. Simplicity , The new DeLuxe mechanism is a model of simplicity and freedom from complicated or crowded parts. Simplicity is said to be the " highest type of invention work " and in this direction the new DeLuxe machine is not approached by any other. Material and Workmanship In this line, the DeLuxe is in a class by itself. Nearly all parts, except shafts and bushings are made of a fine quality of steel and iron, the bushings for the slower running parts being made of the best quality of bronze, while the faster moving shafts and bushings are made of steel, hardened and ground. There are no die castings (soft metal castings or lead molded in dies) used in the DeLuxe machine. Neither, are there any brass gears used. The gears have broad faces, which permits the teeth being cut at a lesser angle, thus avoiding excess enthrust. Eye Shield To protect the eyes from the glare of the " spots " on the film gate a double eye shield with colored glass on both sides has been provided to enable the spot to be examined without discomfort from either side of the machine. Arc Reflector A special convenience to the operator is found in the arc reflector in each of the doors on the two sides of the lamphouse. Cam and Balance Wheel (a) The direct connection between the cam and balance wheel, both being mounted on the same shaft, is of vital importance in connection with steady projection and especially when a machine has been in use for some time. (b) There is no loose connection or lost motion of any kind between the cam shaft and the driving mechanism. Removable Intermittent Movement Box By the loosening of three screws, the oiltight, compact. Intermittent Movement Box, carrying the balance wheel and intermittent sprocket, may be quickly removed for inspection, adjustment, exchange, etc. Shutter The shutter drive spindle is connected to the mechanism gearing by the sliding disc type of universal movement which has proven so substantial and practical during many years of service. Fire Shutter and Governor The fire shutter on the New DeLuxe Mechanism is coimected with the governor in such a way that it is operating connection both when the film gate is open and closed. The governor is of compact, rigid and most durable construction, being made of steel and iron and has no delicate parts. It is also easily accessible. Sprocket Idler Adjustment This important adjustment in the new DeLuxe mechanism constitutes a new development in this line. Besides being highly efficient, and sensitive to slight adjustments, it is compact, strong and convenient, the adjustment being easily accomplished with a screw driver. Ball Bearings The take-up spindle is provided with specially designed ball bearings, which makes it practical to carry three thousand feet of film and eliminate all unnecessarj^ drag on the mechanism. It also contributes to the sensitiveness of the take-up, making it more efficient with less power. Have Modern Fireproof Factory The Enterprise Optical Manufacturing Company is located at 564 W. When the com I pany first leased space in this building, mor than eleven years ago, they had very lari^ fireproof vaults constructed on each floor. On of these vaults is used for the storing of specia tools, dies, jigs, patterns, records, and all smal parts finished and in process, while the storag of finished goods, lenses, the larger finishe< j assemblies, etc., occupy the remainder of th ' fireproof storage space on another floor. Thi precaution operates for a safeguard, not alon to the company, but to the user as well, wh< | need not be deprived of repair parts or acces sories in case of fire. Owing to the unusual degree of accurac; required in modern optical projection work together with the high degrte of durabilit: required in order to withstand at times th' double normal speed that prevails in man^ theatres, the requirements in the way of equip ment to produce this high standard of efficiencj has been very much out of the ordinary. In the construction of the Motiograph Projector, there is verj little ma-i ^ terial other than iron and steel, the steel being] hardened, tempered, ground and polished so as to secure at the same time the highest degree of accuracy and durability. The use of "'die cast" parts is considered unfit for a machine* of the De Luxe quality and therefore none have been used. While the greatest care is necessary in thi selection of materials, the selection of workmci to properly work those materials is a matter of no less importance, and that the workmen may produce results of the highest character, machinery and tools of the best qualitj' obtainable are indispensable. Therefore every effort has been made by the company to fully meet these requirements by securing the best, ob-j,. tainable, and this is why you so frequenth" hear it said that the material and workmanship in the Motiograph stands without a rival or an approach.
