ThG Univorgal ^Qrial that vill nGVGr riGGd a Connor Testimonial No WID'S Says: 7 Carl LaQmmlQ presents ACTACOCD in II UmVQr^al's Ced-blooded American Wistoru Serial Directed bu EDWAQ-D LAEMMLE American history now takes its place in a chapter picture. " Winners of the West " is based on a great American theme worthy of an epic. Contrary to the usual serial, it stays right at home and does not wander off to China or Europe, neither does it use auto races, aeroplanes, drawbridges and other devices so familiar to the serial fan, to ]3roduce its effect. In " \\'inners of the West " American history has been caught at a climax and dramatized into a stirring and appealing picture. A romantic tide of historv' is pictured at its flow and illustrates the adventurous days in the " Roaring Forties." Days filled with Indians, Pioneers, Tomahawks and Prairie battles. This was the time of Kit Carson and Captain John C. Fremont, and the days that led to that mad rush for gold in '49, and the opening of the West. Edward Laemmle deserves a good deal of credit for his direction of this production. The action is smooth and the human touches are well planned. Art Acord is certainly one of the very best and most daring horsemen in pictures and his work in this production is excellent. From the start he develops a very lovable character. Miss Alyrtle Lynd is a very suitable type for the part and does pleasing work. The rest of the cast present good and contrasting types and also are very adequate. As a whole " Winners of the West " is one of the ver\ best chapter productions of the year. It not only contains the necessary number of thrills, but it is also an innovation in the line of serials. It touches on a subject that is romantic and big, and presents it in a direct and truthful manner. It is filled with historic interest and is clean and censor proof. WIMNEBSoF4«>WEST II
