A FILM INSPECTION MACHINE
The Film Inspection Machine Company, New York, will place on the market in the near future a small compact model said to be easy to operate and designed for 2000 foot reels which is intended for use in motion picture theatres.
The inspecting is purely a mechanical and electrical process of high efficiency. Manual inspection and handling of the film is completely done away with, except for threading and repairing. The detecting fingers are capable of locating open splices, outside breaks, inside sprocket breaks and small inside tears in a film which may even escape a hand examination.
The Film Inspection Machine will act as a motor driven rewinder with not more than two feet of exposed film. As it rewinds it will automatically inspect the film.
Film Inspection Machine.
It is claimed that this inspection between each show will keep the film in better condition because a defect will be repaired immediately after it has happened and before repeated projections enlarge it ; that it will be an insurance against a dark screen, reduce the fire hazard, prevent the scratching of film and also act as a check on the condition of the projector. If the Projectionist finds a defect in the film which was not there before the film was projected, it gives him an instant clue to the fact that dangerous wear has developed or some part of the projector is out of adjustment and he can take immediate steps to correct it.
