You are probably familiar with the story of the bank clerk who has ambition to beome a great lawyer but is prevented by poverty. He steals some of the bank's cash and deserts his wife and small child. Later after becoming a judge, and having remarried under the impression that his former wife is dead, he is called upon to try his daughter on a framed-up charge. He is being very severe, but just as he is about to pass sentence he is recognized by the wife he had deserted, and his infamous past is laid bare.
