This story takes as its subject the averted cheating of an old man out of his mining claim through the influence of his daughter's innocence and gentle womanliness, which completely overpower the villain and cause him to retrace his steps.
Japan, the Riddle of the World — Powers — August 17. — In this Dorsey travelogue numerous places and objects of interest in Japan are shown. First come the beautiful sea approaches to the country. Then follow scenes in the cities, pointing out the wonderful changes brought about in the last few years. The scenic beauties and methods of labor in the land are also dwelt upon.
Ashamed of the Old Folks — (Two Reels) — Victor — August 17. — With Matt Moore and Jane Gail. Matt and Jane, happily married, have both come from the country and made their fortunes in the city. They each receive letters from their parents stating that they intend _ to come and visit them. Each is ashamed of his country parent and thus the two parents are put up secretly at the hotel. It chances that Matt and Jane select the same hotel. The old folks meet at the hotel, have a brief love affair and become married. Thus there is more than one surprise awaiting Jane and Matt.
The Weapons of Love — Big U — August 18.— G. Raymond Nye and Vola Smith featured. This story by Hapsburg Liebe was originally published in the Red Book magazine under the title of "The Weapons of Bill Murrel." It deals with the breaking up of a feud of long standing between two clans. Bill Murrell loves Tommie, daughter of John Anson, leader of the hostile clan. Tommie is stricken with the mountain fever. Anson and his followers come upon Bill in the woods praying earnestly for the recovery of his sweetheart. The sight of Bill praying for Tommie strikes home to Anson and is sufficient to end the feud. Bill and Tommie being married when the latter recovers.
The Two Pictures — Imp — August 18. — With Wilfred Rogers and Kathleen Aamold. This story shows what happens as the result of exchanging a salacious picture in the window of an art store for that of the Madonna. Thinking the bitter picture is that of the nude, an immoral young man takes it to a dance hall for the edification of his friends. A fight results. Then follows the effect the Madonna's picture has on a blind girl.
Beyond the Trail — CTwo Reeis) — Bison — August 19. — Dorothy Phillips and Ben Wilson featured. Tohn Blakely, widower and father of a little girl of five, works for Morgan. The latter's wife, in love with Tohn, vows vengeance when he refuses to call on her. As the result of her plotting John is forced by Morgan to leave the town. Before Mrs. Morgan dies she confesses her guilt to her husband. Years later Morgan's son Paul falls in love with Tohn's daughter in Canada. John attempts In '-ill Paul but wounds another man by mistake. Finally Morgan and John meet, difficulties are explained away, and the young lovers are hampered no further.

Bettina Loved a Soldier — (Five Reels) — Bluerird — August 14. — Featuring Louise Lovely and Rupert Julian. Based on Ludivoc Halevy's novel "L'Abbe Constantin." Jean Reynaud, the nephew of Abbe Constantin, is in love with Bettina, but looks upon her wealth as a barrier between them as he is poor. When Jean sees his love getting the better of him he decides to leave the following morning, and to see Bettina once more hs attends a ball given at the castle. Here he meets Paul de Lacardens, who also loves Bettina. and when he casts an unworthy aspersion upon Jean's motives with Bettina they fight and Paul is defeated and completely crushed. The next morning Bettina goes to the vicarage and confesses her love for Jean to the Abbe and the priest commands Jean to marry her. Franeella Billington, Douglas Gerrard, George Berrill. Zoe DuRae and Elsie Jane Wilson complete the cast. Rupert Julian directed the production.
