Elvire’s father, an old fellow powerfully interested in seances, has been in¬ structed by his favorite spirits to marry his daughter to the Marquis de Daddo, a very good friend of Casanouva’s. Thus, the triangle is formed. In the course of events, Casanouva blithely fights several duels for his friend — and to the consternation of Elvire, eventually ar¬ ranges another duel with the Marquis, With gendarmes hot on the trail, Casa¬ nouva and Elvaire hide in a basket which later proves to be part of a balloon to be used as an anti-aircraft target. Knowing that Howard is a fugitive, Davis tells him that he is the head of the mail bandits, and Howard joins him. When the gang holds up a train carrying a big supply of gold, How¬ ard sends a secret message to San Diego. Tyson, seeing the possibilities in the car, advises him to take up the matter with the fire commissioner. Hector doesn’t want to split with Tyson if suc¬ cessful so he demonstrates alone. Tyson loosens the brakes and the exhibition is a failure. Patsy tells Hector to get the commissioner in his car and she will turn in a fire alarm. The car tears through the streets and Hector refuses to stop until the commissioner signs a contract. He consents and the car stops in one length. Patsy awaits with open arms. Randolph’s first wife had died and he believes Alice will make a good mother for his son, Billy. But Billy re¬ fuses to recognize the woman, crying for his real mother. When the Indians rebel and Randolph is sent away from the fort, Billy hides Alice in a cave. The Indians attack the now deserted fort, and Billy, using strategy, blows a bugle which will make the Indians think troops are still at the fort. Randolph hears the bugle call and rushes back to the fort in time to save Billy and Alice. Billy now has changed his mind about Alice and the three are re-united in happiness. During a New Year’s celebration at the Ritz he meets three college boys, one of whom is being made the victim of a no¬ torious gold-digger. In effort to save the boy, Pierre discovers that he is his son. John Cable, father of his wife, admits that Elliott is his son. Determined to save his boy in spite of all, he threatens the gold-digger, only to be insulted by his son for daring to interfere. As a last resort he enlists the aid of his son’s sweetheart, Beth. Elliott returns to Beth. But though he is grateful to Pierre for helping him, he cannot un¬ derstand his motive. Elliott goes away without ever finding out that Pierre is his father. Fred Coulter, a young miner, is ap¬ proached on the matter of buying the horses. Decker has tried to win Ruth Browning, a town girl, but she is not impressed. Fred learns of the plot through Ruth, and Fred starts back to town to warn the people. The Indians attack. After a fierce struggle with Decker, Fred overpowers him and falls into Ruth’s arms.
