In fact the audience whistled and hooted in frank derision and refused to let the show go on until its displeasure had been registered to the full. After enough of this, the blustering baritone walked down to the footlights, glared out over the audience, and roared, "You don't like me, eh ? All right. But just wait till you hear the tenor !"
