Wanda was born in the Florida backwoods country, where her father was a foreman in a logging camp. Her background and early training gave her an extremely practical outlook, which was later to come into conflict with Audie’s impetuous, idealistic nature. When her parents moved to Jackson¬ ville, Wanda, who had shown a marked dramatic talent, became interested in little theatre work, appearing in a num¬ ber of plays, among them “Snow White.” At the age of fifteen, she was dis¬ covered by a talent scout, brought to Hollywood, and signed by Warner Broth¬ ers.
