There are two advantages in the dissolvcr as against the single stereopticon. F'irst, the dissolving out of one picture by the other is a much more pleasing effect than can pos- sibly be had with a single stereopticon. Second, when using a single stereopticon, unless the projectionist is very careful while removing or inserting slides, he will nio\ e the carrier, which will cause the picture on the screen to move or jump. This is not possible with the dissolver. Stereopticon pictures may be projected with a verj- much less brilliant light source than is necessary with motion pictures. .As a matter of fact high amperage for stereop- ticon projection is objectionable, because the resultant heat may and probably will crack the slide if it be left in the light for more than a very brief period of time.
