We use Optical Character Recognition (OCR) during our scanning and processing workflow to make the content of each page searchable. You can view the automatically generated text below as well as copy and paste individual pieces of text to quote in your own work.

Text recognition is never 100% accurate. Many parts of the scanned page may not be reflected in the OCR text output, including: images, page layout, certain fonts or handwriting.

WINTER ON WETALLTOK’S ISLANDS 57 Eskimos that it was these rocks we came to seek. He told them how the white man “boils” these rocks and fashions the wonderful knives and guns and spear-heads which they hold so dear. He told them how they could tell if the blue rocks were iron ore by scratching them with flint, for the scratches made red streaks like blood. Several among them knew, they thought, where were the sevick (iron) rocks and promised to bring in pieces when they came again, which would be over the sea ice in winter.
