Robert F. Wagner, Mayor WNYC WNYC-FM Seymour N. Siegel Director THE CITY OF NEW YORK MUNICIPAL BROADCASTING SYSTEM MUNICIPAL BUILDING NEW YORK 7, N. Y. WHitehall 3-3600 January 17, 1955 Mr. Frank Schooley Station WILL University of Illinois Urbana, Illinois Dear Frank: I am transmitting herewith an explanatory memorandum and Appendix 3 to the Statute of the Prix Italia concerning the new "Italia Prize" for television. You can see by glancing through the material that we are now entitled to submit a Television Program between 25 and 85 minutes in length to compete for the 2 million lire prize. I am not familiar with the work which has been turned out by any of the educational television stations which might fit into this category but it seems to me that notice to all such stations is called for and it certainly should provide you with the means of taking the leadership in the television field. I think it's time we got going on the radio prizes. This year we are sitting on the Documentary Jury so we can submit both a musical entry and a dramatic entry. If you want me to prepare a notification with all the details to be distributed to other stations, I would be happy to do so. In any event, I think you will agree that we ought to get going without delay, if we are to come up with something of some import. I hope all is going well with you, and with all best wishes, Cordially yours. Seymour N. Siegel Director TKe sns-lg Voice Of The City
