Description:
The official newsletter of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters (NAEB) -- the predecessor to NPR, PBS, the CPB. Led primarily by faculty and staff at large Midwestern universities, the NAEB envisioned uses of broadcasting to improve society and educate both children and adults. The newsletter chronicles the NAEB's activities in advocating to the FCC for educational stations to obtain greater access to the public airwaves, coordinating the distribution of educational recordings, and planning the production of ambitious programs, such as 'People Under Communism' and 'The Jeffersonian Heritage,' which starred Claude Rains as Thomas Jefferson. This newsletter was digitized as part of the 'Unlocking the Airwaves' project, a collaboration among the University of Maryland, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Wisconsin Historical Society, with funding from the NEH. -- Stephanie Sapienza & Eric Hoyt, 2019.

OFFICIAL BALLOT Present Article 11 of the Constitution now reads- Dues; The annual dues or registration fees of active members SHALL BE $10, PAYABLE JANUARY I OF EACH YEAR. DUES OF ASSOCIATE MEMBERS SHALL BE $5, PAYABLE JANUARY I OF EACH YEAR. The proposed amendment to the Constiutson suggested by the NAEB Executive Committee and about which you were given official notice on May 1, reads? Dues: The annual dues of members shall be determined upon the basis of transmitting power, namely, for amplitude modulated stations 500 watts and lower, $10 PER year; I kilowatt and lower to 500 watts, $15 per year; 5 kilowatt and lower to 1 kilowatt, $20 per. year; for frequency modulated stations, up to and incluoing 5 kilowatts, $10 per year; up to and including SO kilowatts, $10 per year; and up to 50 kilowatts, $20 per year. Dues for international shortwave stations shall be computed on the same basis as frequency modulated stations. Member institutions owning or OPERATING MORE THAN ONE STATION OR HOLDING A CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR MORE THAN ONE, MUST PAY THE COMBINEO RATE FOR THE TWO STATIONS, BUT IN NO EVENT IN EXCESS OF $20 PER YEAR.
