MAJOR PRODUCER-DISTRIBUTORS DROP OFF $36,000,000.00
All of lh» major producing-distributing corporations for the year 1947 showed net profits of a little over $89,000,000.00. As compared to the previous year when all of the companies showed a profit of $126,000,000.00, which was an all-time high, the drop-off in net profits is about $36,000,000.00.
While local business conditions were off a small amount during the latter part of 1947, most of this loss can be attributed to the English tax on American pictures. In 1946 the American film companies collected a little over $68,000,000.00 from England. According to the present quota, the United States film companies are supposed to collect $17,000,000.00 annually from England, although at this writing, this seems rather doubtful.
