news YORK PR-17A-9-45 April 2, 1952 THOMAS B. McFADDEN IS NAMED DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL SPOT SALES FOR NBC Thomas B. McFadden, general manager of Station KNBH (Hollywood) for the past two years, has been named director of National Spot Sales for the National Broadcasting Company, it was announced in Chicago today by James M. Gaines, vice president for NBC's owned and operated stations. The appointment is effective immediately. McFadden's appointment to the national post is one more in a chain of advancements for an NBC career employe. He began his compa¬ ny service as a member of the guide staff at NBC New York studios in 1934, in 1935, he was assigned as a writer in the news room, and by It 1938 had become a news broadcaster. McFadden joined the Navy on Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, 1941, as an ensign in Naval Intelligence. On completion of his assignment with the 3rd Naval District Head¬ quarters in New York, McFadden resigned and then enlisted in the Army as a private. He took flight training and later was commissioned as a pilot with the rank of second lieutenant. His flying career included service in the African and CBI theaters and he was discharged with the rank of captain in 1945. Returning to NBC, he rejoined the news staff and in April, 1946, was named director of News and Special Events for V/NBC. Subse¬ quently, he became assistant manager of WNBC and WNBT, later gradu¬ ating to the full management of both New York stations.
