CHICAGO, July 14 - Every unit of the National Broadcasting Company's round -the -city television facilities was thrown into play Friday immediately following the nomination of Gen. Eisenhower at the
Republican National Convention here.
As soon as it became evident that Eisenhower had been nomin¬ ated William R. McAndrew, director of the NBC network's combined radio and television coverage, seated in the vast switching center at the Amphitheatre, yelled to his entire crew, "Let »er rip»n. H. Colledge, production director, activated all of NBC televisions mobile units.
One was stationed in the Taft headquarters at the Conrad Hilton, a second was at the Eisenhower headquarters in the same hotel, a third was in the lobby of the Blackstone Hotel where Ike is living, a fourth was in the street between the Blackstone and the Hilton, a fifth out¬ side the International Amphitheatre and a sixth, the super-mobile "crash11 unit, was immediately rushed to the scene at the Blackstone.
Threading its way through the maze of facilities at the mo¬ bile unit points, as well as in the Amphitheatre and elsewhere around Chicago, NBC television wove the entire news story into an outstanding
piece of TV news coverage .
The first major news-break following the nomination occuired outside the Taft headquarters where Ike had gone immediately after he received the news.
