10-Convention creased and crumpled. Clifton Utley was also seen and heard from this point . To keep the running story alive, NBC then switched at 2:20 pjn. EDT to Ike's headquarters on the 11th floor of the Hilton and two minutes later returned to the Amphitheatre where pandemonium raged. At 2:29 p.m. it was back to the Blackstone lobby where anx¬ ious groups were gathering to greet the arrival of Eisenhower returning from the Hilton. Two minutes later, the mobile unit in the street pic¬ tured the huge crowds in downtown Chicago and by 2:35 the super mobile unit had arrived on the scene to show exclusive shots of the other NBC mobile unit, the crowds and the crush between the two hotels. Two TV cameras operated from the self-powered big mobile unit. At 2:41 the network switched back to the Blackstone, and at 2:44 to the convention floor with a picture taken from NBC's booth swung high in the air above the speaker's platform. Two minutes later the super-mobile unit was back on the air until 2:49, when NBC switched to the Amphitheatre floor while Bill Henry announced that Eisenhower would not appear before the convention until that night. Thereafter NBC switched from one camera to another in the following order: 2:53 - A shot of the sidewalk outside the Hilton where a platform is being built for the demonstration; 2:53:50 - Convention Hall. 2:54 p.m. - To an exclusive shot of the NBC-TV skylift cam¬ era outside the Amphitheatre to picture delegates filing out of the 2:54:50 - Picture of the Hilton Hotel from another unit.
