October 12, 195^ NBC RADIO TO FEATURE PROGRAM IN MEMORY OF GLENN MILLER; MANY FAMOUS SHOWBUSINESS HEADLINERS TO PARTICIPATE A special tribute to Glenn Miller and his orchestra will be heard on NBC Radio, Sunday, Oct. 17 j 6:30-8 p.ra., EST. The program, titled THE GLENN MILLER ERA, will be emceed by Dave Garroway. Featured music on the show will be the actual recordings of pre-war Miller broadcasts - "one night stands" from such places as the Glen Island Casino, the Meadowbrook and the Cafe Rouge of the Hotel Pennsylvania (now New York's Hotel Statler) . In addition to the Miller music, former bandsmen and friends like Billy May, Ray Anthony, vocalist Marion Hutton and pianist Chummy MacGragor will be heard. A number of other celebrities, including Jimmy Stewart, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Jack Webb will take part in the salute. NBC director George Voutsas, who worked closely with Miller on the Army Air Force Training Command NBC series in 19^3-19^, will relate incidents from the past, when plans were being made for the postwar reorganization of the band — plans which never materi¬ alized due to the untimely loss of Major Miller on a military flight between England and France. o
