TRADE NEWS May 9, 1955 NBC STARTS NATIONWIDE SEARCH FOR NEW COMEDY WRITERS Most Promising Discoveries Will Be Attached to Writing Staffs Of Leading Comics for Apprenticeship; Quest Is Phase One of NBC President Weaver's Talent and Show Development Plan The National Broadcasting Company has started a nationwide search to uncover. promising new comedy writers for the future, Richard A.R. Pinkham, NBC Vice President in charge of Television Network Programs, announced today. The most promising young writers will be brought on salary to New York or Hollywood, Mr. Pinkham said, and will be attached to the writing staffs of leading NBC comedians for a period of training and apprenticeship. Supervision of the project will be in the hands of Leonard Hole, NBC Director of Program Development, Mr. Pinkham said. Mr. Hole, a senior network executive and a veteran of 20 years of TV and radio production, direction, writing, programming and administration, will have carte blanche to carry out his high-priority mission. The countrywide quest for comedy writers will be Phase One of the multi -million dollar talent and show development project announced recently in Chicago by Sylvester L. Weaver Jr., NBC President .
