May 11, 1955 BARNARD COLLEGE AND NBC TO PRESENT FIFTH ANNUAL SUMMER INSTITUTE OF RADIO AND TELEVISION Barnard College will collaborate with NBC to present the fifth annual Summer Institute of Radio and Television from June 2? to Aug. 5 in the NBC Studios, Radio City, New York, The program of six courses will have added emphasis this year on TV techniques because of increasing interest in educational television. NBC -TV producer-director Caroline Burke, teaching for the first time in the Institute, will offer a new course, "An Introduction to Television Production and Direction," For the first time a special session on color TV, including showings of color programs and commercials, will be presented by Barry Wood, NBC color coordinator and director of special events. Students also will have an opportunity to tour the NBC Studios and observe behind-scenes activity. Other courses will be "Technical Operations Orientation," to be taught by Paul L, Gerhart, assistant to the president of RCA Institutes, Inc.j "The Techniques of Announcing on Radio and Television," by Steve White, program manager of WRCA and WRCA-TV; and "Your Television Career," by Michael Dann, director of program sales for the NBC -TV network.
