NBC’s color facilities, already unmatched in the industry, are being expanded still further with the construction of Studio 3-K in Radio City, and with the installation of color equipment in the "Home" studio in New York, These facilities are in addition to the network’s Brooklyn color studio (the world’s largest television facility), the Colonial Theatre in New York, and the recently dedi¬ cated Color City in Hollywood, featuring the first studio ever designed for color from the ground up.
Other highlights of the NBC color schedule:
1, Milton Berle becomes the first top TV star to be presented in color on a regular basis. Berle will present 13 color productions originating in NBC’s Color City at Burbank, California, beginning Tuesday, September 27 (8 to 9 p.m., N.Y, time). Each will have its own individual format with the flavor of an opening night event,
2, "Howdy Doody" becomes the first daytime "across the board" program to be completely converted to color. Howdy and all his familiar friends go permanently into color on September 12 (Monday-through-Friday, 5:30 to 6:00 p.m,, N.Y. time) in the new NBC color studio, 3-K, in Radio City, New York.
3, The new daytime "Matinee" dramatic show will provide a full hour of mid-afternoon color Mondays through Fridays
(3 to 4 p.m., N.Y. time) beginning October 3. This program,
produced in Hollywood by A1 McCleery and originating from Color City
in Burbank, will consist of live dramas of nighttime quality, to be
presented as a "national theatre."
