SYNOPSIS OF STORY "Annie Get Your Gun" closely follows the story of the real Annie Oakley in telling how, when still a young woman from the backwoods of Darke County, Ohio, Annie was matched in a shooting exhibition with Frank Butler, sharpshooter of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. She outshoots Butler and in time supplants him as the star attraction of the show. They fall in love but his pride will not permit him to accept her as a superior shot. This keeps the two lovers apart. Eventually Annie gets her man by letting him outshoot her. She has learned, in the words of one of the show's songs, that "You Can't Get a Man Wi th a Gun . " (more )
