NBC-TV AND RADIO NEWS NBC RADIO STATIONS WJAS AND WJAS-FM, PITTSBURGH, CHANGE CALL LETTERS TO WAMP AND V/FMP NBC‘s newly acquired radio stations WJAS and WJAS-FM, Pittsburgh, changed their call letters to WAMP and WFMP today (Nov. l8), it was announced by H.W, (Hank) Shepard, General Manager of the stations. In selecting new call letters for the stations, Shepard added the "P” for Pittsburgh to the "AT^l" and "FM" designations for the two stations. Use of the new call letters was made possible because of the generous cooperation of the American President Lines, Shepard explained. WAf/IP, previously a familiar radio call on the major sea lanes, was used by 3^ ships of the American President Lines during their trans-Pacif ic and round-the-world voyages and has circumnavigated the globe 73^ times. The call was relinquished by the steamship line to the NBC Pittsburgh stations . WAMP operates on a frequency of 1,320 kilocylces with power of 5^000 watts. WFMP operates on a frequency of 99-7 megacycles with power of 24 kilowatts, NBC assumed ownership of the stations on Nov. 1, NBC -New York, 11/18/57
